The projector’s light was dim and yellow. The image on the screen was shaky and hard to properly make out, but there was no mistaking its star: that was definitely Dr. Tom, the physics teacher and a woman who was not his wife.

Slide projectors, the transparency projectors, and now digital image projectors that function seemingly by thought alone. How far we have come in our ability to take our ideas and our visions and put them large scale where we can share them with anyone.
She set up the projector and someone turned out the lights and then everyone quieted down. She clicked through her images and said a few words about each. At the end, everyone felt sad but also somehow like they had witnessed something that got to the core of things in a way that none of them could explain but that nonetheless left them more open to the world.
She clicked to the next slide and nervously scanned the room. Most eyes were on her. A few were taking notes. A few more on their cellphones. At least one was clearly dozing off. Okay. You can’t expect to please everyone.
The projector was tormenting me. It was showing me that I was a monster. No, it wasn’t showing me, I already knew I was a monster. It was just making me have to realize it all the time.
The projector sat on the broken tree trunk as it displayed a cheesy chick flick I recognized. I turned to Tyler as he stood behind me with a crooked smile and I laughed with tears in my eyes.
“You did this for me?!” I cupped my mouth with my fingers. He approached me slowly and chuckled
“Of course I did, you know I’d do anything for you.” He hooked his finger underneath my chin and brought his soft lips to mine.

The math teacher couldn’t get the projector to work, so he asked the head IT worker to check on it. Of course, when she arrived, he scoffed.
“I wanted the head IT worker,” he growled, “and not some pretty little intern.”
The IT lead smiled. “Well, then,” she replied. “You can just take your projector and stick it where the sun don’t shine, then.”
