  1. I had to ordain to new wave
in my focal point of pain,
i took a pan, and battered avocado oil all over it,
    mixed up my stir fried,
and saw the truth, behind, the pan’s
    blackest pit,
my new eyes, reflect what the future tells
    and not what it told,
novelty is always new and irrelevance paces old.

  2. She sprayed the pan and set in on the hot stove, waiting for the metal to heat up. She pushed the hair out of her eyes. She blinked in the heat. Okay. Breathe. Take a breath.

  3. Once upon a time there was a magical frying pan. This pan granted anyone who held onto it three wishes. And bacon. Due to the potential for mischief, the pan was kept under lock and key by a wizard called Dave. Unfortunately, someone else knew where Dave kept the key. He kept it underneath his pillow, except on Wednesday mornings when he enjoyed a nice bacon sandwich…

  4. mixing in my research, oils, onions, fragrant cloves, some shit, mental baggage, self-loathing, devalued dreams, emaciated identity; lets get dinner. I can cook. I can cook consistently at least

  7. I haven’t had an inspiration to cook in far too long. I would love to make seared scallops for all of my roommates like the ones I had when my father took me to oceanaire. I love delicious pan-seared scallops.

  8. As a people watcher, I instinctively pan the room as more people enter. I see all of their emotions in the way they walk, the way they talk. The scared ones dart their eyes around. The anxious ones mess with the edge of their clothes and readjust their things. The excited ones hop on the balls of their feet and talk quickly to the one beside them. The depressed ones have headphones in and don’t look away from the floor. The angry ones ball up their fists and practically shake as they walk. The neutral ones stare on and walk like they don’t have an exact location to go to. The watchers, like me, look around, meet my eye, then nod. A silent recognition for their kind of person, and continue on their day. The best part of people watching is seeing the things people think they hide, but they don’t hide it well enough.

  9. Hazel dropped the pan with a loud CLANG, and cursed under her breath as she bent down to pick it up.

A concerned looking Michele stuck his head in from the other room. “Having troubles?”

“Oh, heck off. I only dropped a pan.” Hazel blew hair out of her face and set the pan down on the countertop.

“Yes, but you have flour all over your face and hair. Would you like help?” Mich stepped into the room with a bright grin, teasing as ever.

Hazel’s cheeks flushed red for a moment as she contemplated. “Yes, please.”

  10. The grease you’re supposed to leave in the cast-iron builds up until there is no room for your bacon. It sours and molds; what a flavor enhancement. Add a sprig of rosemary, and a little edible flower that needs no name. No one will eat it anyway, though they might give a purple petal a nervous nibble before fork-flicking the broken bulb to the plate perimeter, taking a tumble into the trash, and the bin will smell like wilting years. I love the flavor of every meal that came before. Never wash the cast-iron.

  12. Rapunzel got ready to hit the strange man with the defiant jaw line. She didn’t want to admit it, but she held onto the thought that he was quite handsome. Either way, he saw that his eyes were beginning to blink open, so she immediately swung the pan to him. His face swung back and forth, impacted by the big hit that caused him to close his eyes again. And as the chair was swinging back and forth along with his face, he collapsed.

  14. If you are a people watcher, then you know as well as I do that when you pan the room, you see it all. Anxiety, enthusiasm, fear, cockiness, confidence, sheer terror, and complacency. It takes all that to make the world go ’round. They say?

  15. I’ve got a panoramic view
And all I see is me and you.
    Giants in the sky,
    Lightning in our eyes.
    We strike,
    Excite.

  16. Deadpan eyes,
    Hard to cry but
Only from the callous holding that ocean inside.
    Rest your tired hands, love.
    Open the floodgates
I’d love to swim in your sea.

  17. pan like peter pan? Or like frying pan? I don’t know but either way I have a certain disdain for three letter words. They remind me of a jar full of only pennies.

  18. the room was silent, no one was home, the window had been left open and the pan on the stove had been abandoned mid meal, it wasn’t a nice silence either, it was the kind of silence that would make you say something just ease the tension but there was no one there to say anything. Occasionally you could hear a police siren or the wailing of a child but other than that it was silent

  19. pans, they cook your food, where would we be without pans. starving, neolithic, almost caveman-like. People take pans for granted, they’re so underappreciated. WE need to give pans a chance, pans can help us do so many things, now and in the future, we can develop pans, im not sure how, but we probably can make pans so much better than they are now

  20. The sizzling sound of whatever was cooking filled the silent room. Even the relentless tick tock of the clock had gone quiet. She stared down at the stir of vegetables with hollow eyes, hoping, praying that the silence would soon cease. Yet, it didn’t.

  21. The thing about never growing up is, growing up brings you something special. That’s what I could never convince Kelly of. She was always certain that once we’d hit our 20s, once we’d gotten out of college and entered the real world, that that would be it. I could never get her to see that there was something else, something special, waiting for us once we just…grew.

  22. i sat in the front row because i knew it’d pan up
    my grade
im hardly ever in a poor mood, even when im poor,
here’s what i got in store,
lets work hard towards a likeable endeavour
with a mindset that’s both creative and clever,
    boom,
pull the pan off the stove,
    my ambitions are warm enough,
you can find me writing for sublime in garden grove

  23. There she was, a gleaming golden goddess upon the clifftop, wielding her cast iron weapon like a blade of yore. Every blow she struck resounded like a gong, every foe crying out as they fell face-first in the dust. It was in that moment I realized… That pan was everything I ever wanted.

  25. We use it to cook. I put bacon in it; the sizzling sweet apple wood fills the air.
In the evening we use it for steak or stir fry or some kind of casserole.
Today we use it for defense. It goes ‘spang’ as it smacks a decaying human in the face. Their teeth go loose and a glob of their nose goes flying off. Blood drips from the bottom of the pan like bacon grease seeping through the pan and I think, “‘I’m so hungry. I wish I had some bacon right now…”

  29. He scorched the underside of her good, cast-iron pans much in the same way he scorched her heart. Both were too good for the likes of him, yet endured the abuse.

Years later, she found, both would be doing as strong as ever without him around to try to misuse them again.

  33. Peter. The boy who never grew up. The boy who lived as a child and never experienced the pain or beauty of growing up. The boy who never had a chance to grow up, who was so terrified of the experience that he chose to stay exactly how he was forever. He didn’t want to change because he was afraid of loss. He was the one at a loss.

  34. Her friend came out as pan before Pride, and she came out as gay. They went to the parade hand in hand and looked at the corporate display. They stared at the floats and business showboats and wrinkled their queer little noses. And they ran off instead to the edge of the city to bathe in natural rainbows and roses. Those of you who still hide, I hope one day your Pride will burst forth. Know that you are supported.
