  1. I received an orchid while dining at the Margaritaville in Las Vegas. I was given it because I had donated to the Samoa Relief they were collecting for. It was a pretty purple and white one. Someone asked me as I went through the security line if I was going to Hawaii…if only!

  2. Orchids have always been a bit of a bane in my life. My mother has had an attraction to them, and in a sense, infected others with the same attraction. It’s known that orchids can have that effect on people, as many orchid fanatics have learned. They literally affect those who see it.

  7. there was a girl with no name.
and everyday she came to school
with a lions tail and mane on.
and one day she was siting on a bench
she saw off to the side, a flower bud,
    it was quite ugly.
and as she sat it began to rain,
and as she sat the strangest thing happened
the sun shone and the rain ceased.
the girl with no name sat there
    she began to smile
as she watched the bud opened to reveal a beautiful orchid.
the girl with no name was no longer nameless.

  9. He took her by her hand, his pale skin almost glowing in the moonlight. Moving through the path of vegatation that was familar to him, he reached one spot and untied the bandana around Kathryn’s eyes. She gasped when she saw the sight of million of orchids in different shapes and colors, surronding her and shining in the vast glow of the full moon.

  10. Orchid is a color that lies somewhere between pink and purple. It is also a type of flower. I saw an episode of Leave it to Beaver once where Wallie is taking a girl to a dance and the girl asks him what type of flower she is going to get from him, and she expresses that she wants an orchid.

  14. The orchid had bloomed while he’d been gone. For some reason she hadn’t thought it would, but he didn’t seem surprised. In fact, he darkened the bright orchid just by his presence, and with his touch it burst into flame. “wow,” she whispered, surprised. “You couldn’t do that before.” He smiled, but it was a cruel attempt at such an expression.

  15. white flower with vulvar intentions…much like so many of us, at least those willing to admit it.

water is needed… but applied gently without intention, lovelingly the sun must gently warm the petals, if to harshly exposed the flower will wilt and its beauty will fade

…like so many of us, at least those willing to admit it.

  17. pale, violet, deeply scented, fragile and frightening. new orleans in the summer. rotting perfume, sweat, heavy bass, lilting in the night, shuffling down bourbon street, tourists gone, beignets eaten, sugar flower on sticky hands, rinse in the mississippi, harmonize with those black boys, visit the plantation, take a picture of a man sweeping the grounds. faux pas. racist undertones. pity should be reserved for children and animals, not humans. what else to write, have i reached 60 seconds?

  25. He laid it down on the grave as the rain pattered down, wetting his hair and his clothes. “I know they’re your favorite,” he said softly. “But I haven’t been able to afford them recently. I’m sorry.” And then suddenly he was weeping. Why was he here, laying flowers on her grave? He should be giving flowers to real life girls, not dead ones. And he turned and walked away.

  29. She found herself walking alone down the paths lacing through the orchid. She was alone, but she shouldn’t have been. He should’ve been there with her. She willed herself not to think about it, but it was hard. She stopped, closed her eyes, and inhaled the sweet, sensual smell of apples. It brought her mind right back to him. She should’ve known.
