  4. It’s an occasion that was marked by the suffering of an old woman, feet sinking into the spongy earth above the grave of her infant son, fifty years gone. It was her only child; he was born with five fingers on each hand, ten toes between the two feet, and a faulty heart that sent him on his way just two days into life. She never recovered. It was her fiftieth visit.

  8. It was a wonderful occasion to wear that puffy, pink ballroom gown. Why do I say that when the ball gown was worn to school on the precise day in which we had to paint? I ‘m not really sure, except the fact that since the rest of the kids thought this girl was a princess, they incessantly flung paint at her and made her into a paint princess of sorts.

  9. It was a special occasion, with decorations of all kinds ringing the entire room in a glow of fake crystal and cheap colored paper. The girl in the corner was bored with it all, not because she hated the holiday or family get-togethers, but because she simply couldn’t bring herself to talk politics with the man who thought wolves could be killed off because we only needed dogs.

  10. Occasion. For some reason, this word reminds me of a shell. Doesn’t it seem mildly shell-like? Somehting black and pink and clandestinely curled within itself on a white beach. You would find it in the morning, by yourself, scaling the length of the shore, waiting for the sky to change from off-white to blue.

  11. in this occasion i want to talk to you about this is stupid game ai’m playing. ut’s always the same, really, just metawriting about not having something to write about. Boring, I’d say. But alas, here I am, doin it all the same.

  12. it was an occasion like any other: we all sat around the table, playing nice with the dinner plates and making obscenely polite small talk. i stared out the beautiful white french doors which framed her father’s round figure and couldn’t help but think of tv dinners and rewinding vhs tapes.

  23. It was a solumn occasion. But I couldn’t help but laugh. I tried to keep it under wraps — snickering a little — but I could barely keep it from sputtering out.
Funerals are like that, I suppose. Many people cry and mourn. I tend to laugh as I would rather laugh than cry.
At the end, I ran out of the church and burst into laughter. I couldn’t take it any longer.

  24. I bought myself a beautiful ring for no particular occasion other than it was time. I carried the jeweler’s ad with me for years and asked him to create a beautiful ring for me. It was my 25th wedding anniversary so I guess that’s the occasion, but I bought it for myself.

  30. I dress for the occasion. A gorgeous evening gown, ringlets that cap my head of hair, interwoven with silk petals. If only… I wasn’t spending this evening alone.

    by Elaine on 07.13.2008
  31. An occasion is not a thing, really. it is whatever you decide to call a moment in time. For you, it is an occasion; for the rest of the world it is only a succession of minutes; time as ever. On one occasion . . .

    by sandra on 07.13.2008

  34. Occasions are few and far between in my life. I think this is because I have valued the peak experience so greatly that I may have burnt out the light on the control panel that reads, “Occasion.” Situations simply are.

  38. It was a special occasion – Sandy was turning a year old. In Earth years, she would have been 166, but as it turned out, she was born, and still lived, on Neptune. Despite the conversion, people on Neptune still aged in correspondence to the length of a year on the planet, meaning Sandy was nothing more than a typical smelly baby.
