I had a notice stamped on my apartment door as I stumble down the hallway, groceries falling down. It isn’t an eviction notice or a warning of late rent but a simple I Love You.
i keep noticing these little things. the way my dad and i share the same sense of humor. how my stepmom sings out of key to my nephew but its still the most heartwarming thing. my brother making some kind of music all the time, like he was born to (and i really think he was). my mom when she dances around the kitchen, cooking and singing and looking like the most beautiful person i’ve ever met. grandma when she tells me about the daily happenings of belk.
i keep getting this pang in my chest when i notice i only have a few more months until these little things aren’t daily occurrences.
i’m not too blind to notice… so i say. and so i thought. but maybe i am. and maybe i should have said something sooner. i hope… well, i just hope.
that it’s not too late or too hard for my apology.

I noticed a piece of paper glued on the door to my apartment. It was a bright, yellow post-it. It was notifying us — my roommates and I — that we had to evacuate the building since it was being remodeled to be sold. I took the piece of paper off the door, and went in to show my roommates. They shared my dismay, and we started to get really angry.
I notice that the only reason why I hate talking to my dad about anything of importance is because we both have extremely different opinions. I don’t know if I’m just saying that cause I’m his daughter, but we argue constantly cause our opinions differ so much….

As someone walked by, he hastily stuffed it in his pocket. Had others received this notice, too? He hoped not.

He noticed me. That was the most amazing part of the entire day, was that he had actually looked in my direction, seen me, and not looked immediately away. He had given me a thought, actually, I could tell, because he did look away in a moment. And he was still thinking about me. His eyes weren’t focused on anything else in the room after that. Life moves fast. Too fast, that we don’t take time to notice and appreciate the things that matter the most to us: friends, family, and relationships. We’re all so obsessed with ‘achieving’ and amassing material wealth that we lose sight of what is most important: love.
