  2. today is today. Tomorrow hasn’t come yet. and Yesterday is long gone, although Paul McCartney will tell you he believes in it. Me, personally, I don’t believe in yesterday. I believe in today. It’s here and now and there is no guarentee about tomorrow and who even knows if our past is real. Modern is today. Live for today.

  3. I’m a modern man, that’s what Carlin said. And a long list of other things I can’t recall. The silence that fills the void of the modern world is deafening and sorrowful. The modern world is much more soulless than it used to be.

  4. Those monsters. We never used to talk to them before… but now, they’re just around. We can’t help it if they want to talk to us. Our feelings just need to be cared for.

  5. “Modern”. It’s such an ugly word.

I can hardly deny howazing it is that humanity has achieved so much in so little time. In the past century alone it has given us so many things that older generations would never have even dreamed of.

And yet at the same time it has given us so much grief. Imagine the world without smog filling the air. Imagine the world without the threat of being blown away by a nuclear bomb. Imagine for a minute.

Modernisation is a double-edged sword, and it has speared humanity on its end.

  6. Modern man is a scary thing. we have so many emotions. Too many entanglements. I believe that the plight of the modern man is simply that we are all in all, too much. We want to much, we need to much, we feel too much. We have been giving so many fake things that the reality of the world is too much for us.

  10. Modern is a fun word. It means changing, reshaping, creating. Taking the best of what is and making it into something new or just better. Change is a part of life and becoming “modern” is part of that change. The world will always change and we should go along with the parts that work for us.

  15. I don’t think that a lot of people who say they are “modern” actually are. My boyfriends mom just redecorated her family room to look “modern”. It does look like my definition of the word at all. I think it is up to everyone’s interpretation, but some people are just wrong.

  16. The staircase had a hole in it. Jeremy replaced it with a nail and a board, with a bit of lace to say ‘watch out for this board on the stairs.’ His grandma Heather came over and said thats not modern. He replied by taking the end of the hammer to the banisters. That was that: the end of the depression mentality of eat what is on your plate.

  22. it’s all about today, don’t worry about yesterday. you can’t keep holding on to the past or it will only serve to break the future. stop building a foundation, make something on top of what has already been erected. Modernity is now and it should be that

  28. I was always a very modern person. Modern means up to everything. It means trendy. It means ready to go with the world’s fashion of lifestyle. I was very happy that I was modern, because modern was cool and cool as the only type of people acceped in the real world. So, I was afraid I wasn’t gonna be like them, but I was lucky enough..

  29. this is a modern society, they tell me. We have modern equipment, modern clothing, modern music…etc… but I like all of the old things that were happening 20 years ago. Ummm…now that has become “modern” too!!! How did that happen? Old, used, antique…they all became modern without my knowing it.

  30. We are so modern – that is:
    unconnected, fashionista
looking into our glowing sea green screens
    our philosopher’s stones of lies
    and concrete walls
where we forgot what it takes to raise a child.

  31. When we’d spoken last week, Cecily told me that her new husband’s loft was modern, but the minute I walked through his front door I knew that was the understatement of the century. I was immediately struck by the coldness of the place, a bleak palette of grays and blacks. Modern to some people, maybe, I thought as my shoes clicked on the polished concrete floor, but to me, it could only be described as apocalyptic.

  34. the things that are new, the things that last, the things that are old.. they’re never really old, the old things that last, they’re called “timeless” as if somehow some things can step outside this moving place, this travelling tube, and say, “i here! i somethign outside, somethign special, somethingazing! i will never go away!”
most of us humans think we are like that.
think we will never go away, that our mark on this world, this universe will be permanent, and it is, for our scope, until the tome when the earth is grown over, the dust of the sun is settling onto pluto, the final non-planet to survive, and the next millenia of species is sparking into existence, farther away than the light of our sun can reach.

  36. life is too modern for people to understand its simplicity. something is lostong the hard drives, the cell phones, the cables. something like the beauty in a woodland walk, or the sound of waves at the beach. those are programmed into sound-making alarm clocks, when instead why not just go there? life’s a bit too modern for nature.

  38. Modern life is never fully appreciated. We fly through the air and talk to our friends and family half a world away. No one seems to notice these things. We do notice when the flight attendant is not very nice, or if the wireless is down for a few hours. I still can’t decide though if we’d be happy without these technologies.
