She looked down at the lily on the ground, and picked it up, observing it. She frowned in concentration, the green leaves clashing with the white perfection of the small flower. It seemed so delicate, she feared she may crush it. However, when her friend came towards her, she forgot the flower.

i walked in and placed the lillies on the table. I hope she likes lillies. Everyone likes lillies, don’t they?
I need to stop this. I’m letting my nerves get to me. How many times did I run through this in my mind?

I love the taste of lillies. I have them with everything.
Sprinkled over soup. In a nice garnish.
I even make lilly ice cream. Tastes of nougat for some reason. Maybe it’s all the nougat I add…

A bed of lillies might be softer than a bed of roses. I don’t know because I’ve never tried. I’m not even much of a flower person; I couldn’t tell a lily from a lilac.

The lilies were in bloom, showing that the spring had finally come. The cold, sad winter was over, and now Shana could move on with the new life of the season.

Every summer when we drove down to Portland we’d drive past fields of lillies, a burst of color in the otherwise monotone landscape. Sometimes we’d take a break and eat lunch in the field, but most of the time we just drove past and I would gaze at them with a sense of wonder, not realizing what significance they’d have when I was older.

Lillies Of the Field- A movie starring a black man at a time when the shadows of Jim Crow darted across rural doorsteps and city streets.

Her raven hair was cropped close to her head, and stuck up in sporadic patches and pieces, giving her the appearance of a dishevelled pixie. Her tiny finger nails caked with dirt, raked through her hair, as she furrowed her brows at him. Her black eyes ran themselves over him over and over again, almost as throughly as he analyzed her small, sinewy form. It was not her stark nakedness that was surprising- no, he had expected that. But it was the tattoo’s that laced themselves up and around her body, starting at her ankle and making its way up her thigh, torso and around her back, ending at her neck, right below her hair line. It was hard to determine exactly what they all were; perhaps a combination of vines and he recognized some greek symbols and characters. The only thing vaguely clear, was the white lilies inked above her breast bone.
“What are the lilies for?” He asked, motioning to them with piano fingers. She shrugged and replied,
“They mean innocence. Purity.”
“But you’re a…” He stuttered as he continued to stare at her naked body. She glared and snarled,
“It’s the only way I remember what those things used to mean. So are we going to get this over with or?” She sauntered over to his still form.
