  5. You are my lantern to light my path when I cannot see. I hold you in your glory against the flame. I use my mind, you carry with you eyes for both of us, and we see as we run down the path. I feel an ache in my knee, but the light carries me. It flickers, but holds steady. You light the path. I watch my steps, but trust that you will follow.

  8. “Come on Zavvy” Charlie whines, loudly as wrap myself even tighter in the quilt I’d made of scraps of fabric I’d found pretty much any place I could find. The pattern on it was the reason I was being so stubborn. “It’s not that cold and Patchwork Falling Star’s fans aren’t going to be happy if you’re not there” I roll my eyes and stare out the window at the beautiful Boston skyline; glowing like Chinese lanterns at night.

  9. a lantern is portable light, more romantic than a flashlight, less romantic thana candle. its somewhere in between technology and the primitive. no matter what phase it comes in, a light is our guide. it is light and heat, it stands for hope and love. on the days of our lives that feel like power outages, like nothing is working, like someone pulled the plug on our faith, we will always have fire.

  10. He cursed and fumbled with the lighter in the dark. After turning it over several times, nearly dropping it, and then finally figuring out how to work it.. He then attempted flicking it several times, but when he nothing more than faint a spark, he cursed once more and threw it aside, where it clattered on the hardwood and slid into the corner. The lantern sat on the table, mocking him with its yet-unlit wick.

  11. I don’t know when the first time I saw a latern was. Maybe it was when me and my family were at cracker barrel, early in my childhood. I used to like going there. I had a hard childhood and I had a lot of social problems. No home problems, my parents were rich and I had a good future ahead of me. But my god damn social problems. Food was my escape…

  14. She tripped over the torn paper latern. It rolled forlornly on the floor, leaving a spiral dust trace. It’s once cheerful blossoms now greyed. Completely useless. “Kinda like me”, she sighed. Foreign to most eyes & useless in ignorant hands. Ignorant hands in an ignorant land. How she hated this place. ugck. Lifeless, loveless disembodied people. She guessed they were people. Just not HER people.

  17. it’s a lie. you think it’s a light, but really it’s a flame, ready to get you, ready to burn you. it hurts a little to look at, and that’s it’s warning. it will take you if it can get you, like so many thousands of maggots devouring at your flesh. like a giant meal to it, it will burn you alive, searing at you flesh.

  26. she turned to her left just as the lantern swung around and crashed into her face, she felt the glass shatter and the warmth rush to her cheek, she mustered up her last bit of strength and protectvely swung her hands in front of the bleeding gash and just as she did she saw the blue rock that she had first notice when she decided to hide in the forest. The rock was being swung at her face, and as she recognized the shade of blue and realized she had seen this rock before she noticed the same color stone in her murderer’s ring and ironically thats the last thing she would ever see.
