Every night before I go to bed, I have to reach into the drawer to find you. Some days, it seems like more work than I’m willing to put in, just to wash my face, to brush my teeth, to do the dishes, to do the basic things just to live and be hygenic. I hear of people who think of themselves as a rock garden. Daily combing, day after day. A meditation.

Yes, I have one. I bought it last Wednesday. It’s red… This is my first winter and my first approach at adult life, in the cold. Felt reassuring. Almost as if I was going to make it here, in my new life.
My headband is a little unusual, but it’s practical. At least that is what I tell people. Some folks would not appreciate having six separate rings from which to suspend groceries, beer, keys, and the like. But it’s allowed me to nearly do away with my pockets altogether.
