  6. It was the biggest social event of the year. All the young people were there done up to the nines. Betsy looked gorgeous; she wore a lime green chiffon dress with a purple cumberband. Phil also lokked gorgeous in his lemon suede suit with a bright red bowtie. The parents sat on the side of the hall, looking at their children proudly. My, how time had flown – it seemed just a year or two that these kids were children.

  18. It was the event of the century. My friend had tried for months to get the anniversary party for her parents. And I, like the sadistic bitch that I am, decided to sabotage it just because she and I weren’t speaking. I still regret this even 20 years later.

  19. Events are quite interesting. They can range from parties, birthdays, graduations, and crappy weddings… but they’re still events. They also symbolize a time of “fun” and “good food” and “quality time with friends and family.” Psh, like anyone needs that. How about spending my Friday night at home on the couch with a supersize bag of Lays potato chips and watching a Dharma and Greg Marathon? Um, HELL YEAH.

  21. what is an event? is it an idea, is it fun is it a bunch of people getting together – is it music? art? dancing? sports? trauma? protest? how does a simple act of doing become an event? how many people? how newsworthy? how exciting, how dull? how planned for, how spontaneous? do others notice? is an event a single, closed action or open to all? is it remembered? is it fee, or $1,000 a plate? do we have pictures, writings, memories of an event? is breakfast an event? brunch? walking in the woods? how to we partake? do we dress up, dress down, dress crazy? are we silent and observing or vocal and participating? do we move or remain seated? does everyone in the world participate in an event at some point in their lives? can you live a life without an event? is life an event? death?

I went running around the house looking for my toothbrush which I had lost the night before because I drank too much champagne and brushed while wandering around the house because our one bathroom was occupied. Where had I set it? Oh well, time to head to the big event, I guess with teeth unbrushed. C’est la vie. Good thing I didn’t eat garlic last night ;^)
