  2. It’s morning. My alarm goes off and I groggly wake up with an “rrgh”. I reach for the clock by my bedside table and smack wildly until I finally hit the ‘snooze’ button and the beeping at last stops. I stumble out of bed and stare at my alarm clock. 6:00. I guess I should get ready for the daily grind now.

  7. He was too early, he knew that. Should he knock now or drive round the block again? He risked getting lost if he did – but risked looking too eager if he didn’t. Maybe he could just sit in the car outside for 5 or 10 minutes. Unless people saw him and thought he was a weirdo.

  14. morning risers. Birds singing songs. Morning light. Always – that’s me – never late. Babies early – not good. Twins early most of the time. Does the bird catch the worm? What about the cheese, does the early mouse get that? I can’t think of anything else, darn you timer, giving me pressure to finish early!

  15. The early hours of her morning are red. Red sky, reflecting red earth. Red trees, shedding red leaves. And all around is red dust. Red. Red. Red. The Rosebuds are red, too. They prick to the touch.

    Her skin stains red.

She thinks, a little sadly, how her world managed to turn such a monochrome hue. How from the very first time she was crushed against red lips, she bled happy; how the very first time she tangled in the scent of the red, red hair, she lost herself in the bliss.

But what wonderful bliss, this life on red mars is, for a time.

The Rosebuds sing and twist in the howling wind, they stir up the red dust and won’t let any of it settle. And that’s okay.

Red dust floats away on the wind, and the monochrome seeps out from my world. No longer red.

  17. in the morning until dawn. I love watching the sunrise on a windy but beautiful morning. Early to bed, early to rise. How much do we take for granted in the night, when all we need to do is rise a little earlier.

  19. early in the morning just as the sun was r-i-sing is a nice little folk song. folk songs are actually surprisingly good, though i would never tell my friends that. it would be mortifying if it got out that i liked folk songs. my friends are hardcore alternative and rock, they would not appreciate a folk-lover in their midst. the teasing would never end.

  21. It’s early in the morning. I am up, I am moving. I don’t want to be. I’d rather be asleep. I’d rather never wake up again. I hate this life of constant living and constant motion. it’s exhausting. Why can’t I just sleep forever without fail? Oh, I can. It’s called death.

  24. The sun comes up early and I feel like it is a romantic thing to watch. More romantic than the sunset because you have to make more effort. Like, baby, I’m going to pull you out of bed to look at something beautiful. No one wants to get out of bed early. Especially not lovers. So a sunrise watch is damn romantic to plan. Also could be included in breakfast. Breakfast in the dark of pre-dawn sounds magical.

  27. Often it is too early to predict what the day will be like, but I still sit hunched at the desk and try to construct the near future as the sun slowly seeps into the dark. At this moment, I visualize the return of the chariot as a popular mode of transportation, and I foresee the end of the word “honey” as an endearment.
