They were a funny lot. Scruffy, unwashed, smelling of the fish from the bottom of the canoe. But they were mine. My crew, the ones who saved me. This is how it happened.
Hi ho, hi ho. The crew worked across the deck, suntanned and strong in the summer heat. The floor swung back and forth under their buckled knees, and they laughed as they untangled coils around their feet. Some grumbled, as they had been working for 48 hours straight with no sleep. But most were happy because it was a good wrap on set today. And so the film crew dusted off the makeshift set of the pirate ship and headed back for some well-deserved rest.
We have a great crew. A knock around group of pirates. You could say. The ship almost sank today. A hole in the side. Water everywhere. But we bare this burden equally. So we can push out the darkness.

Her crew was even older. The grizzled cast had been raising the sails and stowing their chatter for far longer than most of the crews of the Death Ships. But there was still that rumor… that hint that they might be something more than the age weathered and lounge about folks they seemed to be. For though Lady Love was old, and could use a new coat of paint, the rigging was perfectly so, and they were never caught in a fight unless they meant to be. And that just wasn’t heard of very often.
My favorite cut. The crew cut. Everyone else is busy being hipsters. I have a crew cut. Just like the Apollo astronauts. I’m the spaceman of the future. I’m tough. I’m resilient. I have the right stuff.

And with that, we creeped closer to the house, not quite sure who or what would be in wait for us. How very surprising it was for us to encounter what we did… and how very unsurprising that we lost Sharon in the deal. Oh well. More money for Spike and me. We liked it that way, anyway.

The crew giving out the bags at the end of the cycle leg stood dejectedly around waiting for the final few finishers. Would they finally arrive was the wind and rain too much. At last a weary cyclist turned up YAY another runner sent out on the course.
The west bank was occupied by the “crew.” The Crew was a heavily armed band of hoodlums from south valley. The Rio Grande was no-man’s-land as well as a shallow grave for those who couldn’t dodge a bullet.
The cast and crew all waited for the director to step out of the small conference, expecting his face to be sagging with disappointment. The issues with the producer had run rampant throughout the studio, and now all they could do was hold their breath.
Harriet Sanderman, the youngest of the cast and the child star, bit her lip to keep it from quivering. She had so wanted this film to be completed, to show she was worth more than a few cute catchphrases.

They built a giant man out of mud and sticks. Also a few rocks and some feathers matted together with the mud. He was on the crew that made the neck. He took particular pride in shaping the Adam’s apple.

Patrons could be found and the riches shared, but it was the relationship between cast members – the petty arguments, the longstanding arguments, the feelings of contentment, the long-lived romances – those were what truly mattered.

“Calm down! I’m not accusing them of anything, I was just suggesting that-”
“You were suggesting wrong.” The Captain glared at the reporter. “I honestly don’t care who sent you here for what, but I’ll tell you this. They are good people. They don’t deserve this.”
“Right, now, I wasn’t trying to get on your-”
“I don’t have a good side or a bad side, Miss Saunders.” Dark green eyes glittered meaningfully. “But that’s my crew. You don’t get to them, unless you go through me and I have no intention of throwing them to the dogs.”
