  1. up noth by the lake in hot august for years on end. there are shadows in the yard but dusty hard ground below the hill. then there is the water, it’s warm but shallow. the muck is deep and the fish don’t come near here, no boats go through. there are cranes this time of year, always one by itself. never more, always alone.

  7. cranes are pretty neat. they hang out at the beach. i think they do. they also deliver babies according to myth. wow that is actually the bird. cranes also demolish things and pick them up. cranes are neat.
