Clarity is weird. There is a fog over much of the things that go on in this life and nobody ever seems to know what’s going on. You need someone or something to clarify your purpose. You need to clarify you.

He returned to her flat because he had a bad feeling. He wanted to clarify that she was fine. When he realised that her door was open he felt suddenly nauseous. But nevertheless he entered it and found her in her bedroom. She looked as if she was still sleeping…

“Can you clarify? How exactly did it feel when he was with you?”
She rolled her fingers on her knees. ‘Like,” She said, “Like all the water in the clouds fell at once onto earth after the longest drought in the year. And you’re drowning, but you’re so happy to have water you don’t notice until the oxygen is pushed out from your lungs.” She pauses. “That’s how it felt. To be loved by him.”

“If you’d like me to clarify it for you,” his boss said, dangling the word you longer than he would have liked.
“No, it’s all right. You’ve been clear enough.” He wanted a cigarette and he didn’t want to appear stupid in front of this woman.
“Then you have 10 minutes to pack up your desk and leave.” She closed her folder, uncrossed her long legs and vanished into her office.
He was left sitting at the table, fuming. They should have been more clear about what they wanted him to do, not to be clear only when they fired him.

“You see, we’ve spent most of our lives dancing around one another in this endless game. No one knows who will make the first move or when, who will chicken out. All I know is this simple feeling, this sensation which I haven’t felt in years.”
“And would you mind clarifying that for me?”
“…I love you.”
