  2. Capitalism is a double edge sword in society.
On one hand, it allowed an extremely efficient mass production of goods, services which drives down the cost of the finished products.
On the other hand, it permeates a severe class divide, that not only widens it but also creates hostility between the two groups, slowly leaving the middle class to shrink.
What then is the correct path, I wonder?

  8. He was in his late stage when she ran into him by chance. She’d had come to visit someone else in the hospital. She hadn’t seen him in years, but was always curious of him, a flaw she’d often cursed because more often than not he always seemed rather one dimensional. Of course he hadn’t anything interesting to say as he sent her a thousand yard stare that zoomed right past her. He shrugged, clutching the IV drip closer to his frail, thin body, and muttered, “Oh, you know, Capitalism.”

She whistles in astonishment and takes a knife out of her purse. Before he can protest, much less call out for help, she cuts the tube that attaches into his wrist. Without that steady drip of medicine, he flat lines immediately. He sputters incoherently as his eyes roll into the back of his head. He dies. She waits. He comes back to life.

    “I’m dizzy.” He says.

“I should think so.” She says. What she doesn’t say aloud, “Sometimes I miss that look of recognition in your eyes.”

She observes a returning glow, he’s haggard, but rapidly improving.

“Well, it was nice running into you. Try not to get stuck being sick again.” She waves goodbye now.

He realizes she’s leaving him for what will be the last time, “You know this is a cycle, right?!”

“Yes,” she smiles sadly and walks off into a room he’s not allowed to go.

  10. Capitalism is a rampant beast. It came late to Romania. It came in a mangled, deformed shape. It wasn’t the pure idea you read about in history books. It wasn’t happy. It pitted the people against one another, instead of bringing us together in the hope of forming a better society. The social foundation wasn’t strong enough

  13. Capitalism is a word he hated. He was a staunch communist in the caste laden area. He lost his land, he lost his earnings as he always lent a helping hand to the needy. He was more with the people outside his house than his own family. He always cared for the people around him.

  14. Capitalism is, as I understand it, the opposite of socialism. Socialism is based on equality of outcome whereas capitalism is based on equality of opportunity. But then again I’m probably just parroting Ben Shapiro.

  18. She rolled her eyes and scoffed. “I hate this.”
    “I know.”
“Why can’t people just be generous and loving and see each other as human beings or whatever. Don’t laugh at me,” her voice raised over his chuckle, “I’m serious.”
    “I know, that’s why it’s funny.”

  20. Kya wiped the sweat from her brow for what seemed like the nth time that day. They still hadn’t reached their quota, and the burning sun was no help whatsoever. It beat on their backs like a forge, turning her brain slow and sluggish, even as she tried her best to work. But when the sun set and the master stepped into their hut, whip in hand, she knew it still hadn’t been enough. It was always like this anyway. She would strive to feed her siblings, the master would whip her for not reaching her quota, and then they’d all go to bed. All in a day’s work.

  21. I don’t know what that word means. if I’m honest I don’t understand politics and I never have, but somehow I’m running for president. It sounds hard to believe it was an accident but it was. I needed a job and something to keep my mind occupied plus my friends thought it was funny. No one was going to vote for me anyway. My palms are damp and warm as I gawk at the papers before me.

  22. A book, a page, a chapter, a font, a few blurbs and an account of what we have made to what we still want. Capitalism is the above and below and beyond.

    by Robert Kohlhammer on 03.13.2018
  23. And then there is everyone else. There is capitalism and materialism and futurism, even communism, a few of the beliefs among the many. Those and the other ‘isms’ grow out of societies and cultures that expect we are one and all the same, where although the past was perfect, the present causes problems, and we, the people are the problem. If we could all just stop and get along, do what we should do, be what we should be, the world, the Earth, would be perfect again. But, who am I to rant.

  24. This is something I do not know to much about , but can think it is something that I may eventually come to know much more, so as I may be able to write about it.

    by Donna Whiting on 03.12.2018
  25. She juggled the rolled-up newspapers, the lollipop stick hanging out of her mouth; it dragged red stickiness all across her lips as she pursed them in concentration. She shrugged and caught the newspapers out of the air in her left hand.

  26. Capitalism. Is that a name of a captain of a certain ship? If so did they forget the rest of his name? I do that. Sometimes I remember the first part and forget the second. I am bad with last names. I remember first names and faces but last names seem to fade away into the sunset never for me to find until I ask again.

  29. we were fed the exact same story over and over again. it was for the good of the people, and the market would save us if only we worked hard enough. deep down, we knew it wasn’t true. this was a system designed to keep the rich rich and the poor in poverty, and that 1% that controlled all the wealth were in no way ready to give up what they had.

  30. The Skeleton King began selling coconuts to tourists. They would buy them at 1 gold coin each. “This is capitalism at it’s best, Radamant!” The Skeleton King cackled into the air. Radamant bit into one of the coins. “Plastic?” he whispered.

  31. In all honesty, I don’t really know what Capitalism is….. I guess I need to go back and relearn what it means.

  33. Well, hello, Mister Capitalism, you’re looking cheery today! All fat and rosy-cheeked again, your top hat and tails on display. You stroll down Central Avenue with a grin streaked on your face. You’ve made Wall Street your loyal bitch, and you’ll soon monopolize outer space.
