  4. ¿Canteen?

  5. I love to go camping and drink cold water from a steel canteen. The canteen makes it so much colder and has a tinny taste like Koolaid in the old aluminum cup. Reminds me of my childhood. I guess a canteen is also a place you eat.

  6. I saw the water hole, I was so thirsty I couldn’t stand it I just ran! I left everyone behind to just get a chance to fill my water canteen. Then I tripped. I fell and I didn’t even know what I had fallen on, then the pain hit. I had broken my arm.

  8. Starlight, PA. Never having watched Airplane, I wandered away through the grass, dew soaking the cuffs of my jeans. Eventually, he found us; in my head, I hadn’t actually gone anywhere. I’m not sure he ever forgave me for that wander. Even though he’s the one that tromps about to find things these days.

  9. My friend Mohammad gave me the coolest canteen ever for my birthday last spring. It is leather and has a shoulder strap; complete Western style. It really meant a lot to me, and indeed holds a lot of water. :)

  10. you’re stronger than that. my stomach feels empty. hollow, hollowed-out. not physical pain but gut-wrenching, what the fuck will i do now? empty. like the canteen you kept between, you and the cold desert. now i guess we’re both just fucked.

  11. filled with sloshing whiskey & we drunk ourselves silly on top of the hill but felt on top of the world & and i swear we were never going to end. our yells would echo on forever and someday, our great-great-great-grandchildren would come here and smell the scent of cheap alcohol and the good ol’ days and feel the warmth of us in all our giddy happiness,

    breathing on always.

  12. canteen? like in the military? i remember in holes they all had canteens… that was a great book. and an OK movie. it’s weird to think that the kid in holes and even stevens is now the transformers dude… he was so awesome back then. transformers is kind of a crappy series though. i wish even stevens would come back, what a sick show. loved it.

  13. The empty canteen was strapped to my shoulder, bouncing obnoxiously against my skin, sticking with sweat for milliseconds before bouncing back. I didn’t know what I was doing with such a heavy-duty water bottle for a liberal arts summer day camp. That’s what I get for letting my dad shop for me.

  14. It was blazing hot on the Fourth of July. I sat with my husband who was grilling on the barbecue. The smell of steak filled the air, and i needed my canteen to quench my thirst. Water dripped down my throat, and I felt refreshed. It was a good day.

  15. a carton, a jug, something that water and fluids are held in, something you want to be at the front of the line for, jars,

  16. The canteen glowed eerily. I eyed what was supposed to be a healthy drink warily. What had they put in in this time? My boyfriend assured me it was good for me, but could I trust him? With eyes closed and heart in throat, I lifted the canteen and drank.

  17. The desert stretched out before me, endless. I knew I only had two days worth of water left in the old canteen–three if I really spared it. But somehow, I forced myself to keep going. Forced myself to hope he’d show.

    by Megan Meyer on 05.26.2011
  18. the canteen came out of my back pack and put up against my dry lips. i had waited all day to take a drink, but knowing that the water supply was low, i had to wait. but no longer. it was time…..the cool water went over my dry lips and tongue into my throat and cascaded down my throat. sweet relief.

  19. I had a canteen once. It was pretty much amazing. I bet you’re just jealous right now of my awesome canteen. Oh I forgot to mention that it was silver and full of sparkles. Yeah, I’m just that cool.

  20. The girl crawling through the sands of time. Her struggle to live, to move forward she needed that one slimmer of hope. In the distance she peers over the dune and rising from what seemed like the sun was a man carrying a canteen. She blinked and he was gone. Oh how she craved the water of the canteen trickling down her throat. The icy crystals condensating on the sides pressed against her hands. Oh how she craved the glossy swirl of coldness. Oh what she would do for one sip of that canteen…

  21. It’s so hot it’s on fire. So hot there will be no fireworks for the Fourth of July. So hot your tongue will stick to the roof of your mouth if you don’t bring your canteen.

  22. A canteen may seem like a simple vessel that holds water. If you put it into the hands of a soldier serving in the south pacific during ww2 it better be full, it becomes the difference between life and death.

  23. nourishment is so fucking beautiful.

  24. a water container that a solider or camper would use to drink their beverages

  26. I just wrote about this word, canteen. I’m not even really sure what it means; i am pretty sure that it is something you take camping when you put water in a bottle and it nourishes your body. It’s crazy how many words are out there that you just don’t know, it could be completely different than what I think. But who the fuck am i to judge?

  27. I’m very thirsty. Who’s idea was it to go hiking in the desert in the middle of summer? The canteen is empty, and I doubt I can make it back to the truck in this heat.

  28. Canteen, a canteen is simple. It holds water right? What can there be said about a Canteen? Not very much. But when you think about what would happen if even a tiny hole was poked into the Canteen. All of the water would pour Out. Isn’t the Canteen sort of like us? Someone pokes us and it all come’s pouring out.

  29. Empty, empty, empty.
Why didn’t you think to fill it?
Now you’re thirsty, and you’ve got nothing.
And you’ve got nothing to do but keep going.
    So, go.
One foot in front of the next.
Find your own water, and drink.

  30. All I can think about is how Meowth had a canteen in one of the Pokemon movies and it was empty and then how he had Divining Rods (proper noun?) that separated when they found water or something. I love Pokemon. Yep. Now we wait.

  31. the canteen i owned when i was a child had a hole in it not much can be said about a canteen with a hole in it that just goes to show my childhood. My life. My everything that ever once was to become. Now that i sit alone in this ark room i think about that purple canteen and the memories it brings.

  32. Water in canteen, warm and clicking back and forth, back and forth it clicks in my ear, it’s a tin bladder, headphones dishing water waves of sound.

  33. play the music loud, keep your head low, walk tightly. don’t flail your legs around like you sometimes do; people will notice here. keep your steps short, pretend your legs are sticks, and sticks do not bend. sticks only move straight. keep your toes pointed at the person you’re talking to. body language. that matters. don’t cross your arms, don’t fidget with your hands too much. cross your legs at the ankles, don’t put one leg over your thigh. better yet, remember that they’re sticks: broken sticks bend in only one place. it’s okay to bend at the knee, but keep your legs straight, thighs flat against the chair, calves going straight down. you can do this.

  34. To drink. Thirsty.abanoned. Wheres my oasis. Wheres my canteen? I need water. Life. Breathe life into me through water. Canteen. Container that is my life.

  36. Daniel drank deep and handed the canteen over to the next man in line. They had been walking for two days straight now, and between the sun and the sand, they were all filthy and exhausted. They were also almost out of water. He wondered how long the liquid in the canteen, their last water until the next oasis, would last.

  37. A canteen is used to drink from, like when you’re in a desert. I read a book, I forgot the name, and it was about a young boy in a desert and his adventures there. I went to the fdesert. It is actually a lot more different than you think. I was really hot, and the air was dry, but it was a good dry, like my lungs could finally breath.

    by SBT3786 on 05.26.2011
  38. I was drinking out of a canteen because I was traumatized by the intense desert heat. The water didn’t taste very good because it came from beneath the sand.

  39. Dehydrated. I wander in the forest with just you, my canteen. We meet a stranded warrior along the way. I will call him Canteen Boy. You don’t know why, but I think it’s hilarious.

  40. I aqm walking in the desert and I am thirsty. I r5each down and there it is. it is like a god for me in that moment and I rejoice that I have yet another day to live I wonder how many other people are as fortunate as I.
