  1. It’s been a while since i’ve gone to a canteen. College seems like a distant memory. I can’t remember the hours spent there, eating and discussing the bizzre, the mundane and just plain stupid.

  2. food is enjoyable, however I avoid canteens because they are gengerall durty and not a nice place to be, a cafe however is quite a nice place to be and at times resturants can be even better but if per chance you go to a resturant where the waitress continaully fills your water glass and makes you feel like an imbecille then perhaps canteens are better.

  4. The birds are already chirping. Hiking. all day. Miles, both horizontal and vertical. Why the hell am I lying awake? I should be tired; I am tired. I need some water. No, I need some sleep. Fuck the birds. Might as well get up now. Fuck the birds.

  5. 127 minutes. interesting film, thought Franco should’ve won an award for it, though not necessarily an Oscar. Was he really that bad of a host? He looked deprived of sleep, but then again he was standing next to Ann Hathaway, who is usually polished.

  6. The sad little canteen had a hole in his bottom. All his brethren had long since been chosen by enterprising adventurers and taken off to the far corners of the world, but the lonely one was left on his shelf to watch as time slipped by.

  7. Water water water.
    I say and need water.

This canteen is just but a childish dream.
Like being an Indiana Jones…..all adventurous and all.

    sheesh…who thought I’d be like a child…
    dreaming and all.

I guess the child in me never goes away……I’m happy.

  8. I remember we would all line up outside, the taste of plastic and too much water, and there’s always that one girl who throws up every night for attention. Funny, the Army, that way — that getting sick could be a positive. So twisted. I will never drink from another canteen.

  10. “Lovely canteen.” Chris said, mockingly.

“I know – who knew that we would end up n a place like this! Who knew that we would end up in the Army at all!” Jeanne laughed as they sat down at the nearest table.

  11. A canteen is a place in a certain location where people love to come and buy food from. Some canteens have good food and some have bad, but none of that really matters now does it? Nope. Canteens can often be small, big or moderate. Right now, I’d love a canteen because I am darn hungry .But hey, who said it’s all about me? NObody! Hehe.. Anywho…

  12. food. a place to gather with friends, a lovely yet awful place. food, food, more food. sometimes food could be delightful or horrid, but what the heck, it’s still food. hmmm, yummy

  13. my father held his canteen for me to see and smiled that lopsided toothy thing that was his most endearing smile. He said to me “yeah, so this is what you’re going to be using to get your water from the river. Now, are you ready to go camping?” I gulped… i was a 13 year old girl… i was SO not ready to go camping.

  14. As I stood with my canteen under the running water, I wondered, “is this going to be it?” I don’t know. I don’t want to know.

  15. I love the taste of water from my father’s old canteen. It had slight metallic taste and was always tepid but the tones of autumn and closeness filled it with poetry.

  16. I was at the canteen with my best friend Marsha. Today the meal was mashed potatoes and green beans. Of you course there was no meat, there never was, and if there was is some god awful piece of chewy mess that made you think to your self what kind of strange deformed creature that ripped it off of.

  17. food. a place to gather with friends to eat. food, more food. sometimes has bad food, but it’s still food. most of the time the food sucks compared to other places, but what the heck. found at schools. teachers, students, faculty members eat here.

  18. Food covered in grease. Disgusting mass catering that we have to deal with every single day. No wonder every second teenager has a serious eating disorder or problems with their skin. No wonder people’s metabolisms have been destroyed from avoiding meals at the office canteen. I detest canteen food.

  19. I was in the middle of a debate between whether smooth peanut butter was better than crunchy peanut butter. I stood and said :Why don’t we just have both, you noobs!”

That day I became a can teen. (You get it?)

  20. I see. Little shop. Killer sandwiches. Baps. Salty crisps. And the delightful scent of coffee wafting across, bathing the girl behind the counter in its aroma. The girl with crystal blue eyes.

  21. The canteen was buzzing with an air of finality as the senior students trooped in before the final assembly of their secondary education. However, the air of finality created a terse atmosphere as the laughter seemed forced and small talk pierced through everyone’s pensive state. This was not farewell, this was goodbye.

  22. I’m not sure exactly why the word canteen is up there. It was the farthest word from my mind. I don’t know why I have to write about it. It’s suppose to be the place where people go to the bathroom right? I can’t really recall. I like how it has two words inside of it though. Can. Teen. We get canteen! I wish I kinda had one now though. Cause I just realized it’s a thing that holds water.

  23. Dropped it, empty. My canteen, the goddamn thing, determined against being full. A drop spilled out, hits the ground, and disappears.

  24. There are may different kinds of canteens that you could think off. Heck we’ve all been there trying to get either a bite to eat or even a nice male depending on the quality of the cateen itself. Well, we had a cateen in highschool, it wasnt very interesting though it was pretty basic was like a kiosk and was with a guy who stands at the front takes cash and yells out orders.

  25. Can hold a drink – although I’m not sure anyone still uses that word anymore.
Can be a cafeteria – usually serve shit food, especially in schools.

  26. Silverware – o my beauties – spoons blackened with age -candelabra falling drops like stars- rings and blazons emptying their glory in silent store rooms – all my wonrous lustre – locked and cold – no sun here for showy spoilure

  27. George entered the canteen , his soiled shoes mixed yesterdays spilt meals and discarded tissue napkins.

  28. A canteen can be the saving grace of a dry mouth. The last drop could feel like a summer storm to your dehydration. Its simplicity can save you, giving you the one thing you really need. It’s your rock.

  29. His mouth was like a canteen spilling out words, leathery, grey-green. Stop, stop, I thought, but he just kept speaking, telling me I wasn’t worth it, telling me he was lonely and nothing and I coughed but stayed otherwise silent, and he kept talking, and I bowed my head.

  30. This canteen was small. It was rugged. The soldier carried it with him. It was his lifeline, his everything. Water. This is the canteen’s customer. It got beat up, but it was rugged. It saw its show of combat in war just as much as the soldier. He put his lips to its cold metal top. Fresh, cold water.

  31. Drinking alcohol in the woods – at summer camp, when you’re not supposed to. A christian summer camp, no less. You get caught, but it’s not as bad as the time they caught you having sex behind the counslor’s cabin.

  32. Oh god… The song! Yeah I know that’s not how it’s spelled, but I’m still hearing that damned tune in my head now! Aargh! Who shot first?

  33. A canteen is a magical place where gumdrop trees and cherry mellons live happily next to one another with only the best gummy berry juice on tap. The chocolate brownies raise my awareness of all the suffering children in the world and potato bass skins rock my socks off.

    by Blake on 05.27.2011
  34. The canteen was empty. I couldn’t believe that my only hope- a simple canteen that I had just found- was ruined. My throat was swollen and dry as the thirst consumed my body. The sand itched my skin. The heat pulled me into an oblivion of despair and delusion.

  39. Canteen’s are used for people who need them, thirst people mainly, I think. I think of like, someone in WWII or something when I think of canteens Old 1950’s movies, military helicopters and such.

  40. we visit the canteen. we find food in the canteen. but it sounds like a tin can. maybe that’s the kind of food that we get there? I don’t know. i don’t want to go to the canteen alone. it seems like a social place. a place to eat with friends or with others. eating and others. at the canteen. what a weird word.
