  14. A beard is not where a man holds his knowledge. I was informed this the other day well I was serving a drink to a customer. Do not be fooled by a man with a beard, they may not be as smart as they seem.

  15. His beard was EPIC. Eric grasped his naked chin and stared enviously at the stranger with the gloriously full-bodied beard. He wanted that. He’d tried to grow a beard a few times, but they’d always been failures. His genetics simply refused to allow him his dream of being bearded. Anything that grew was always too sparse to be good looking, so Eric had always ended up shaving not even a few days into trying. He sighed and sipped his coffee, still staring wistfully.

  16. I’m thinking of growing a beard because, as a female, I think it sucks that we (meaning my gender) aren’t allowed by someone out there to grow a beard. I have a certain kind of beard in mind; one of those close-cut ones that look like you didn’t feel like shaving this morning. Can you imagine if a woman walked around like that? (I can hear my mother asking the question right now). Okay. So if a woman wore one of those beards as a starter beard, meaning the beginning of a woman-beard trend, that would be the wrong kind to start with. Okay. So you’d have to stay in the house a few days or weeks, waiting for a real beard to grow. You let it grow. Would you look better as a female with a long beard. And would a long, blond beard be more desirable to men that a long dark beard? I see guys who love blondes; would they be extra crazy about blonde women if those women also had long blonde beards? These are the questions we need to ask today. Not whether or not the world is coming to an end, or the polar caps are melting into Florida, or we’re all going to hell when one of these lunatics running a country decides to make the Big Decision to kill us all. We can’t answer those questions or do anything about those things. We’re pretty fucked when it comes to those. But we ca wonder whether or not it isn’t time that women had the right to grow beards without being ostracized by society.

  17. Lucas wanted a beard. Obvously not an ironic beard like too many people had now, but a real decent beard. Unfortunately, his face disagreed with him, and he would only be able to grow stubble. He had tried many times, but he was doomed to be baby face. Maybe when he got older he’d be able to grow one, but now, nothing was happening.

  18. Once he had shaved off his beard, she turned him around to look at him. Brushing off the remaining hairs from his smooth chin, she gazed at him for a long moment. “You look younger.”

  19. I have always loved beards in men. I think that many look much better with them than without them. A beard can make a man look more grown up, less of a child, which in some cases this might be a very useful attribute if your face is literally that of a toddler.

  23. Do you remember that scene at the beginning of 101 Dalmatians? The one where the narrator talks about how “you can tell a lot about a person based on their dog?” It’s true. A dog is a reflection of a person’s effort and perseverance. The dog with a coarse coat and awful aroma immediately betray its owner as a time-deprived, ambition-less entity with little more to offer than their time. You can measure a man the same way with a cursory glance at his beard.

With the right trim you can give off an immediately perceptible air of…sadness? intrigue? naivety? It comes down to what you see. A beard with indiscriminate edges – grown out to the bottom of the neck, allowed to stretch over the apples of your cheeks – these are people who expect reward without effort. They are unable to read others and overcompensate by giving people an immediate visual shortcut on how to read them. Neckbeards need no introduction. On the contrary, a fully grown and groomed beard, as made popular by timber laborer and adopted almost exclusively by a group of pseudo-intellectuals who’ve rightfully earned the title “Hipsters” might suggest an air of pomp, pride, identity that requires reflection off of others.

I won’t bother to elaborate on clean shaven men because they are quite frankly, and put simply, boring. The practice is a part of their mundane daily routine and likely a product of strict rules that promise promotion at work. They hide the chaos of a day under smooth skin – but the trick is to let it show, but not let it consume you. What have you noticed, I wonder? Shaven just above the cheeks so as not to let the short stubble crawl up my face like ravenous vines, betraying my lethargy? Allowed only to grow as long as to cast a shadow on my face, but not hide its features? Meticulously trimmed at the neck, just high enough to look intentional and not natural, untouched?

I let this neat stubble speak the words I cannot say, but still wonder what it’s told you.

At the very least I’m sure it betrays my neurotic behavior; after all, what right minded person lets a beard speak for them…?

  27. My dad used to get off work around 1-2am, and my mother would always go pick him up and if us kids stayed up late enough, we’d get to come with. I’d run as fast as I could as I saw him walking out the door. He smelled of paper, clean paper. and fresh plastic bags. He worked at a post office. Always in jeans and a plaid overcoat. His beard would always brush against my cheek as he gave me a kiss on the cheek.

  28. I have never known my father without a beard. Maybe that’s why I have a hard time going without one. It seems that beards used to mean something. They had depth. Now a days, they’re just for decoration and to spend money on to primp and make oneself pretty.

  32. If I was a man, would I want a beard? If I did want one, would I be able to grow one? Probably not, that seems to be the way the world works for me, I’m not able to get what I want. I like the idea, but let’s be honest, it wouldn’t work.
