  1. It was that green backpack hiked up on his shoulders that I remember most. He would bound up the stairs to my room so jauntily, almost as if he was still six years old. The little moments like that made him seem youthful and carefree again despite the weight of a college workload on his shoulders.

  6. loaded with waaaay too many things. why don’t I use my locker? ever? It’s because I’m just starting out in this place, and my scrawny sea legs won’t always walk me up to that metal panel in the third floor hallway, where the cute guys make my knobbly knees even weaker.

  7. in my backpack I have a change of clothes, my bandages, mouthguard and some band aids and q-tips, i didn’t get to box today because i think my rib is broken. It’s a shame really, because today i really need it

  8. It’s their–and that’s where it will stay. As I set out on my amazing adventure it will guide me all the way. I keep it for comfort and as my source of survival. It’s my backpack–my friend and not my rival.

  9. Dora removed her backpack and began searching frantically for her map. This couldn’t be happening. Not to her, and especially not on the season finale. “MAP?!” she cried, the winds blowing away her anguish. It was no use, she would have to find the tree right behind her without her map.

  13. He strung on his backpack and headed out into the dark night. He didn’t know where he was going, only that he had to leave right then, at that moment. He set one foot in front of the other and didn’t turn back until the last streetlight threw its glow at his departing feet.

  15. In my backpack I carry my life. All of the tools I have picked up along the way – the friends, the foes, the experiences, the wisdom, the happiness, the joy, the pain. Everything! My hope is to one day be able to throw that backpack away, and enjoy life as it comes – day by day. I no longer want to identify myself as any of the people I have been in the past. They have all vanished under the veil of me.

  16. backpack: 10 to 15 to 30 to 50 to 75+ pounds of baggage. The baggage of school, sure. Books and pens and art projects. No big deal. What of school’s other baggage? That kid. You know that one. The one that always steps on your toe when you step into homeroom. For no reason. Just because. You carry him. All one hundred and fifty pounds of him. And honestly, your L.L. Bean isn’t rated for that kind of capacity.

  17. Better days to come
    Are you ready
    Carry only your dreams
    Kick aside all fear

    Pick a future
    Arrive when you are ready
    Can you feel it?
Kick back and relax…. you are HOME!

  18. I shrugged the idea off and stuffed the stone into my backpack for later. Little did I know that that little stone which wasn’t payed much attention to was about to change my life forever.

  19. I have a hippie backpack that I got for four dollars at goodwill. It is made of a soven canvas sort of material and it looks like it came from Turkey. I have gotten so many compliments on it, which is funny, because it’s just an old thing that was recycled from someone else. But i love it… even though I have left it at at least three restaurants by accident (though very thankfully I was able to retrieve it)

  20. We backpacked our love and kept it’s heavy on our backs. You got ill, got tired. I stopped and made camp. Our love was taken as we slept by the robbers in the woods. You accepted it almost immediately. I was taken by surprise and didn’t know what to do with you. I still loved you with every atom in my body.

  25. whats in it i wonder as i approach it sitting idly on the bench; so much wonder contained in a single hobo’s satchel, its contents unraveling the story of every twist and turn that led us here

  26. The backpack was filled with secrets. Papers brought from old Alexandria’s Library. Papers from the world. Papers that tell us who we are, not who we think we are. This is history. This is what moves life. This is what we should live for, take care for, breathe for, bleed for, die for. Maybe, this is love. And all.

  27. my backpack was so heavy I thought perhaps I had mistakenly picked up my little brother instead of just a few clothes and some reminders of home. Perhaps I wasn’t cut out for this traveling shin-dig anyway, I mean who brings their hair-straighteners to the middle of the jungle anyway? That was 2kg of food I passed up right there!

  28. I will lose my backpack in two days. It’s my graduation in these two days and I will officially disown this backpack and find a new one for college. I will miss it, it was like my best friend.

  29. backpack filled with glorious things
Things that make me want to sing
a sign of education, knowledge, and future dreams…

  30. Trusty old thing stays with me when there’s nothing else. It makes me feel prepared for all of the adventures I’m going to have in the same old familiar town. Grey and corduroy, like a ratty child’s teddy bear but for my adult self.

  31. I filled it with everything you like. Nail polish, a wooden puzzle of a dinosaur, all the movies we’d talked about. It was mostly a joke… At least, that’s what I said when I got to your place and you laughed. I wasn’t that excited to hang out…

  32. I once had the coolest backpack. It really screamed me! Someone stole it. Guess it screamed them too, eh? It had Charlie Brown and Snoopy on it. I collect the Peanuts Gang. I love how Charles S. captures the charm of childhood and the lightheartedness of life!

  33. a bacack is something you carry things in. generally books or notebooks. you carry a backpack when you go to school or are going on a extensive trip somewhere. backpack your things and hit the road. it is a very good invention because it makes things easier to carry and make it less of a hassel to carry things around.

  34. I wear one everyday. It is so incredibly heavy. So heavy, in fact, that the shoulder straps are almost broke. It wasn’t even an inexpensive backpack! The brand is Adidas, and it cost around $40. Boy, I am disappointed. Maybe I’ll have back pain from such constant stress. Fun, though, right? I love school.

  35. I love my backpack. I take it everywhere. its really useful, and can really do you no harm. I understand that if you for some reason are being chased by zombies, it is a little more difficult to run with your backpack on, but the chances of that happening are slim to none (so we think). Its useful to store things in and keeps your hands free to do activities.

  36. It sat at the back of the closet, gathering dust, half obscured under layers of unused clothing. The backpack thought of when it had seen the world, met others like it. Those were good times. At least it had the memories.

  37. In my backpack I always carry with me everything I would need “just in case”. Like a lighter, or a book of matches, a flashlight and some gum. You never know what will happen until it does but I, for one, will be prepared. I love my backpack (all of them, I have a bunch) and I don’t know what I would do without them.

  38. I’m so full. I don’t know what to do. This kid will never do his homework. Or be prepared for class. I’ll never lose weight. What can I do? My seam is about to bust open. That’ll help me lose weight. But I didn’t want to go the surgery route. How can I convince him to help me slim down the right way?

    by Mememe on 06.01.2011
  39. Backpack. It’s just a word. Stop trying to find deeper meaning in a simple word. You don’t sound smart or creative when attempting to “wax poetic.” There’s no amount of poetry, eloquent words, symbolism, or metaphors that can make a backpack interesting. It carries stuff. That’s it. I never used one

  40. I had the best backpack, once upon a time. It really screamed me, but someone stole it. I guess it screamed them too. Wouldn’t you think? It had Charlie Brown and Snoopy on it. I collect the Peanuts Gang items, you see. I love the lighthearted way that CS confronts life.
