  1. The very old. When I hear this word, sometimes I think of people. Not pyramids or artifacts, but humans. Sometimes people are so old that it hurts to think about it. About how long they’ve been around and the things that they’ve seen. One day, they’ll come to an end and they’ll be ancient history, like the things that I never think about.

  2. In ancient Greece, philosophy was born. Philosophy is a challenge to religion, which is an organized way of controlling the masses, a tool used by the ruling class. Philosophy studies important questions about life, the world and human nature. This science is of great value.

  4. They say there’s an ancient connection between people. I don’t know if it’s fear or sadness or loss, but it’s there. It’s under your nails and in your hair and between your ribs.

Maybe it’s love, I thought as I ran my fingers though your hair as you slept on our sun-faded couch. I was looking for traces of the substance on you, in you.

    Maybe it’s love.

  7. Ancient runes is at the same time as… divination? In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Haha nerding it out and loving it. I really want to say the time slot was… 9AM. I don’t know why?

  8. The first time I knew my parents’ age, they were in their 30’s.
That seemed like the official age of being an adult. When I turned 30 I was expecting some magic transformation, wisdom, a new take on life, but nothing happened,
I was just 30. I’ve hit a lot of milestones, feeling old and young again, feeling myself going through various stages of adulthood and aging, and then think of my parents and grandparents who are 30 or 50 years older than I and marvel at what they have been through, like proud old trees, solid and ancient.

  9. An ancient affair, spoken in words but meant in few. Its practices are still here, but its meaning long gone, as I stood up from my bed and dragged myself away from the comforts of practicality and into the embrace of the traditional practices of Chinese New Year.

  14. The oldest song in the world. A sad and plucking sound, like crying, like an eternal sadness that stretches from century to century like a languorous limb. There is no time. There is no place. There is no skin between the moments. Forgot it.

  18. The most profound difference between us, today, in this modern world of warfare and mass consumption, and the worlds of wonder that we merely gawk at as they’re splashed across our televisions, is the values of humanity that we hold dear. It should never be about weakness and humility, but strength, power, and the daring urge to press forth, onto something greater.

  19. The ancient civilizations are some of the richest cultures, of all the societies, tribes, and collections of people within my studies. They possess a finer sense of values. They did not suffer from the values of modern Christianity. They valued strength, power, and the human capacity to succeed and supercede what was ever thought possible before.

  20. The ancient runes told the sage that the end of the world was near. It was not an end in fire, nor an end in flood. No lightning would crack the dry skeleton of the earth, the earth that would not convulse or shudder until it split apart and the innocents disappeared through the molten cracks. No, the end was a silent end, like passing on in one’s sleep – while the dreams of the old man became the eternal truth of his existence, and everything was out of order.

  21. it was in the past
    long gone
swept away by wind and thunder
    struck by lightening and rain
    ridded with the past

  22. The ancient of days is one of the names of Jesus Christ. As for me, sometimes I feel ancient. Sometimes I feel like I have just started. Ancient is getting older, though. The only ancient person I have encountered in the news is a French woman who lived to be 124, and knew Van Gogh. She said he smelled.

  24. There once was a ancient king who lived a lonely life ruling over a broken kingdom. He never got to live with a wife and kids because of his selfishness and greed. He never got the happy family that everyone else had.

  25. When I was 12, I decided: if time came, dripping years from my frame, and I reached an ancient age of nothing but newspapers and hmms before each hah-
I would drop myself to the silt glass floor of the nearest river bend, with weights tied to my weakening bones and flustered ideals.

Since sixteen, I have known: no form of death has fear for me; I am ancient in my own right, my soul against my name; I have done enough to live on.

  26. The sands of time engulf me
I look back at old pictures

  35. To learn about something that is ancient is to see the world as it was and as it is. I teach History in high school, to get the word “ancient” is to see my soul and my passion compressed into a simple seven letter word that tells the story of the history of everything. Ever. Ancient is beautiful. Ancient will one day be you. It will one day be me and everything I love. History will one day be ancient, too.
