He held the kitten in his hand. The kitten was so tiny and lost looking, and his hand was so large and comforting. The kitten was a calico, white background with patches of burnt orange and black painted across her back and rings of orange, black and white on her tail. what a strange combination, the furry calico kitten in his large brown hands. he was a gentle kind of teenager, still growing into his long, thin legs with his huge feet to anchor him. he had what my dad used to call a "good under standing," when he would see kids with such big feet. He was not used to cats but this one loved him instantly. She was in need of a home and he was in need of unconditional love and they found each other. As the kitten grew and he began to drive, they became constant companions. She would perch on his shoulder knowing he would never stop suddenly and send her flying.

She sat under the cold fluorescent lights and felt very alone. All the years they had been together and it came to this: sitting in a counseling office pouring her heart out to someone who had no idea who she really was. how could she have been married this long and he had no earthly idea who she was.
