  1. I saw the tiny speck of light glinting in the distance. I knew I had to shoot it. I knew it was some poor sod’s hand but I knew I had to shoot it. What would the outcome be? Execution for cowardice more than likely. But then, death was inevitable.

  2. From a concealed place in his mind, the Harvard Sniper fired highbrow words at a band of dropouts up to no good, took them down with an excerpt from Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit. The media reported reactions from both sides. Many expressed the wish that the sniper had used simpler words to distract the dropouts from their malicious intent. “Perhaps if easier words had been used, they would have understood, and who knows, maybe even gone back to school.” When asked for a response to that general sentiment, the sniper said, “To be fair, I gave them a chance to counter literately, but all they had to say was F**k you, so I let them have it with both barrels.”

  4. The sniper sat on the roof waiting for his shot. Gun armed, the familiar click giving the green light. The target was spotted right by the phone booth, at the right time and in the right place. Later on, they were going to say at the news that he just happened to be in the wrong place at the right time. ‘How ironic’ the sniper thought right before he pulled the trigger.

  5. She stood at a window five floors up from the busy street. She watched as the people below her scurried in and out of buildings and taxis, ants with their heads down, getting their jobs done.
