  1. But I didn’t want that. So I just sat there, waiting for something else to happen, hoping a distraction would rouse me from my seat before I had to make up an excuse to get the hell out of there.

Around my sister’s head was a perfect ring of textured gold. I could not compete.

  2. I’ve never been able to braid my hair. I’ve watched, jealously, as other girls dextrously twist their strands into gleaming bands, little ropes dangling off the sides of their heads. I daydream about my hair growing out long and strong, and chaining it together into a little rope that I could use to swing from the beams overhead.

  3. The first thin that comes to mind is hair because you can braid it and it is a hair style there are two different ways you can braid, three strands of hair and the other is five strands of hair. An other thing that comes to mind is “The Lord of the Rings” and “The Hobbit” movies because the Elves’ hair is always in a braid.

  5. She braided my hair strand by stand, until my head was something resembling Medusa. Colorful ties stuck out every which way. I giggled and shook myself in front of the mirror to watch the bumpy ponytails bounce. It looked so silly! But I knew come morning when she gently unlaced the bands and ties and cloth my hair would tumble softly over my shoulders in curls instead of my usual bushy waves, perfect and pretty for Easter morning.

  6. It means your hair is put up and weaved together and its made to look good.

  21. He watched as she crossed the room, her braided hair fell short but was shiny and brown. He had knots as she walked closer and closer to him nervous she wouldn’t want to talk to him. But as soon as they were eye to eye she embraced all of him in her arms. He held the back of her head slightly tugging on her braided hair that was once down to her knees but now was to her shoulders.

  25. She brushed her hair to the side and began twisting the strands familiarly. She watched him watch her through the mirror. It had been four years and he still watched her do this ritual with the same puzzled look on his face, as if she was a meteor shower that came once every 100 years, something he didn’t know how to process.

  26. I love to wear braided buns in my hair I also like to wear braided hair bands . They are just so quick and easy and adorable.

  27. Don’t read. Just write. That’s what Diane said the other day in the pool, when coaching me to swim and relax. The same technique could be applied to writing. It’s all a game of tenses anyway. But now we’re on the outskirts of town and freaked out. Maybe it’s the polka dot dress, or the fact I’m calmly braiding my damp hair, but to the outside observer we look a tad pensive. Diane’s lips are set in a tight line as she concentrates, “What is it?” This grim question being the first thing she’s said since we sped out of the house.

My hair braided, I place my hands in my lap. “I honestly don’t know.”

And I dread the idea that this poltergeist is of our own creation and decisions we have made have now come back to haunt us.

  37. The way her fingers moved when she braided her hair drove him crazy. Everything about her always amused him, or awed, to be precise. He would watch her everyday from the corner of the class, watching her every move, her every word, the way she would raise her hand when she has a question for the teacher. Her friends had seemed to abandon her, and thus he didn’t get to see her beautiful grin or her melodic laugh anymore.

  40. One thing I never learned how to do was braid hair properly. Luckily, my daughter’s hair is fine enough that it’s not required, but I do worry as she ages that suddenly, I will be THAT mom who never does anything creative with her hair– never tries out complicated, complex styles that other moms will ooh and ahh over. Can’t I just keep it short and curly?
