  9. Wading through water with my new boots on, I wasn’t sure how far I could go. I just got out of the hospital, what, three days prior? Still, I waded along, trying to make it through all the sludge that builds up in the Bayou of Louisiana. This was my favourite hobby in all the world before the chemo, before the family had to move, before the one I loved couldn’t do it anymore..all my fault, and yet everything seemed to wash away in the smelly water that seemed more like home to me than the apartment I just moved into.

  14. I wade through the ocean, my feet cleansed, my spirits high, you are with me mum, walking along in your gorgeous sweet way, hands behind your back, our usual walk along the sea, a soft pastel sunset putting on it’s evening play, the lighthouse in the distance, no one but you and me to see all this, just sweet little birds chasing the waves then running away.
I imagine you there now, as if it were heaven, but if I go back there, you won’t be there, wondering, chatting, ideas, silence, reflecting, watching the light change, thinking of the future. The future is here now and that heaven is gone. Now you know a better place, I can’t imagine somewhere better, so I imagine you there.

  15. wading through the splashes of water and other little tykes around
I navigate the 3 foot deep waters
conquering the kiddie pool sea square foot by foot
with aide from the orange floaters holding me above
I am the king of this jungle
mounds of toys and floating plastic castles
    buckets and shovels
    all floating around my
    big proud chest

  16. You try and push your way through the uncertainty and fear, but the fight is too slow. Any moment now the waters will swell and drag you, pull you, drown you. Forever lost amongst the waves of pain and turmoil too tired to try and swim back to the surface. But for now, while you wait for that horrid end of the spill into nothing, you hold your breath and push through the pull. And you walk across the waters of confusion, into and over the edge of hollow emptiness. As you wade through the dark.

As she got farther out, the water chilled her bare legs and gave the rest of her goosebumps, but she didn’t mind. It was refreshing to take even a short dip in the salty waters, and she wiggled her toes in the sand with a smile. It really was about the little things in life.

Its refreshing and yet you are conflicted because half of your body is burning hot and the other half is freezing beneath the surface.
