The apartment’s been empty for a few years now, but I keep going back to it. Whenever I’m in your part of town, I drive past, almost expecting you to be there waiting for me. It’s stupid. I shouldn’t be looking for you still, after all this time, but you DID make me a promise.
There is an opening, maybe even an emptiness in one’s life that the person desires to be filled. Is that vacany a relationship? Or is there something more pressing missing from their life? Looking within, its hard to determine what that hole, that void is.
The door said ‘Vacancy’ but in the window there was a shadow. Kelly couldn’t tell if it was a mannequin or a person, but she was unsettled by its stillness. The thunder cracked and she nearly jumped out of her skin, but with no other options, she took a step forward.
I went to a motel one day,
said there was a vacant room for me.
I entered, only to find out that it wasn’t.
Thus, I decided, to take my business elsewhere.
The hotel says, “No Vacancy,” but I know that’s a lie. I know they keep six rooms empty at all times. Precisely six. And do you know why? The owner’s paranoid. Delusional. That’s why. He thinks keeping six rooms empty will keep the Devil at bay. He thinks Satan needs six rooms for his demon crew, and if he lets them sleep for free, they won’t come and harm his family anymore. He’s crazy, I tell you. That guy is crazy.
