  1. Two strangers entered a club and happened to come across each other. A guy who wanted a good time and a girl looking to forget. First came the sly glances every few seconds. He gained the courage to talk to her after nearly an hour of these glances. They started with small talk. Soon flirty remarks were thrown all over the place. Drinks were bought and gone in seconds. Within minutes they were on the dance floor. Song after song passed. With each song they got closer and closer. Then came the tongues in opposite mouths. Not being able to wait any longer, they left. Throughout the taxi ride, hands were on one another’s body. Once the door to her apartment had closed, their mouths became one once again. They barely made it to the bedroom before their clothes were thrown all around. The sheets became tousled. Profanities and screams of pleasure continued into the early morning. By noon he was gone, but he left behind one thing. It was a paper with his name and phone number.

  2. “Piano”
    My Keys

Drained, a simple feeling rarely experienced “I’m drained”
Unsated, an expectation undesired, understood, and undeserved
    Salacious never malicious
Disrepected? Not by me, not ever.
Temperamental, emotional tenderness as violent as the beast that savages her
Dysfunctional, if only I could explain why?
Prime, I am the King of Prime Numbers, divisible by one and himself, master of triskaidekophobia
    Hell, my life needs salvation

My favorite smell: “At 9:03AM, when the grey skies are just silver seas, after I’ve let my samplesize cologne Tsst my unkempt jaw, and I’m sitting outside Aromas Cafe, and the end of my just-lit cigarette is no more than an ember, I leave my cigarette atop my table, order a coffee with two sugars and two creams, because today, just ‘black’ isn’t enough, and I pick up my coffee, sit back at my table, draw my ember down the tobacco shaft, exhale, swig a burning hot swig, my mouth in a state of confusion, pain, ecstasy, and finally numbness, then. Breath. In.”

  7. His hands grasped the ever tousled hair of his friend(lover?). He stirred, groggily opening his eyes as they adjusted to the brightness of his surroundings. Light filtered through the blinds and into his bedroom, filling it with a warm glow. On the window sill sat a line of potted plants basking in the rays. He sat up, looking behind his shoulder to take a peek at his companion sleeping soundly. Quietly, he left his friend(?) in the comfort of the bed, making his way to the kitchen to prepare tea.

  28. When she stood up for her award, I could see how purposely tousled her hair was, how the tail of her coat folded inward on one side, how one sock was rolled up while the other was bunched down so low that it nearly swallowed the shoelaces on her sneaker. She walked up to retrieve the trophy, and every teacher turned her head to look at her. She smiled, flashed the bird directly at the quarterback sitting and his head down, and walked directly out of the auditorium with her award tucked under her arm, disappearing into the May dusk.

She’s a mess, here, there, everywhere. She’d always wanted that straight, glossy hair. Hah.

  32. Bringing the mug to her lips, Laura took a deep breath and held it, trying to find her center, some peace. She took a sip as she leaned on the doorframe, looking in on her empty room.

She grimaced. The coffee had chilled. Just like the mussed sheets and her reckless passion.

He had seemed so perfect in the dark. His smirk and soft voice promised something she so desperately craved. But it was a lie. It was her mistake, taking empty promises. And what did they truly leave her with? A messy bed and a cold cup of coffee and an aching regret.

    She deserved better than this.
