  1. Heralding Mortimer’s success is as simple as imagining an intense flurry of currency and coins filling the air. Through the green and silver tempest you can catch glimpses of teak desk and cityscape behind plate glass. But neither you nor Mortimer can see anything more than that.

  2. what does success mean? I think it’s more than making a pile of money. Although, I wouldn’t be one to turn down said pile. Is it becoming that thing you wanted to be when you were a kid? Is it being able to grow tomatoes in a fog-laden environment like San Francisco? Is it making a hollandaise sauce that doesn’t break? Is it going for that run when you would rather be sitting on the couch eating a bag of chips??

  3. i want to be something one day. in fact just anything would be nice. success is measured on a personal level, no one can tell you that you have or havent succeeded. i wish i had a longer life to live. there are not enough words to write about how many times i failed. i prefer to think that im always succeeding, but that may or may not be true. maybe im succeeding in just writing this. probably not.

  4. true success doesn’t mean getting everything you planned to go according to that plan. you know when you’re really excited about something upcoming? and you plan and plan. well stop. success is how you feel when you look back at the event and can smile at the road taken.

  6. To succeed you must be ambitious. So we’re told. I hope to succeed without ambition, for it seems an ugly thing. Yet I wonder if that’s only how it has been painted – the demure, innocent girl should never want more than she has been allotted, isn’t that right? But more recently I find that I am not so demure, so innocent as I had believed, though I may still be naive. *That* is unnerving. Can’t there be both? Kind and gentle, yet successful?

  8. My knee has had problems since 5th grade. I’ve been dealing with it for 6 years and I know it will never get better. I’ve come to accept this, and now I feel as if I had reached a new milestone in my life. I have modified activities to make sure my knee is okay. I have tried new sports as well as maintaining old sports.

  9. Since this morning I’ve thought of the American Dream and what this means. And how our culture marks a college career as its pinnacle while the rest is seen as a social climb down into seriousness and a loss of passion. That in order to be the American Dream we are taught to desire, we must lose our passions, our joys and our truest sense of self. I see that as a failure. I see that success as a personal failure and an emptiness which I fight to avoid at all costs. Finding one love and one drive is my American Dream simply stated because I am American. I need not find that office job and that model wife as much as I need to find that fulfilling job and that fulfilling wife who I fulfill as much as she I. The rest, shall be as it may and that is perfectly freeing and pleasing.

  10. It unfolds, like a canvas. yet we do not truly seek it out. We wait for it to come and find us. Why not venture out into the world and truly experience what it means to be successful?

    by Scott Lyon on 04.04.2011
  11. To be successful or to not be successful?
    What does it truly mean?
I am successful, I am a college student. I’ve worked my way up.
But I have far to go.

I will obtain success as will everyone else in their own way.

Why can’t that be me? Why can I not view my life as successful? It’s something to think about ya, know? Who knows what I really mean.

  25. Success is measured in bizarre ways in modern society. Like the other day, my housemate declared that he had sex with 13 girls in three weeks. The two others in the room roared with laughter and gave him a high five. He was proud as punch.
I guess he successfully convinced each one that they were special.

  30. we all have potential
    stored inside of us
    building up
    it is only those
    who burst with uncontainable emotion
that allow that potential to ooze out every pore
    and glisten in the success
    that you choose for yourself
    for success takes many forms
    if you are happy
    you are successful

  31. That’s what today is. Today is success. Today is perserverance. Today is living well, because it truly is the best revenge. Today is passion, and leadership. Today I am sucesss.

  32. What is success. They tell me I have to get a magic 30 to be a success, so I can go to college and get a good job and get a good husband and have perfect kids. And die rich and happy. Somehow this doesn’t sound so wonderful to me, success isn’t happiness, who ever said it lead to happiness?

  33. Success is something you accomplish when you set a goal and you achieve it, it might be as small as getting up earlier, or as big as getting a high paid job, success can be achieved in many ways.

  34. Someday, I hope success will mean feeling happy. It won’t be about whose wallet weighs the most or who has the most plaques displayed on their desk. Success will be about making others happy – making yourself happy. To be successful, you define who you are truly are, no matter how many bucks or plaques you own.

  35. To measure success in a young girls world, is usually measured in the circumfrance of your waist. It’s a sad truth to be told that thinness is next to godliness; and even sadder when it’s taken too litterlly. I’ll always remember that nothing tastes as good as as thinness feels; god I think I need a life.

  36. success is important, but many people have different concepts regarding success. Some might just take it as the concept of being able to pile up money, but accorting to Maslow, and to life, success can be a much broader concept. Success can be regarded as being able to achieve the main goals set in a certain period of one’s life. So, to that extent, what some may regard as failure, may be a person’s greatest success, and vice-versa.

  37. Success is inevitable, as long as you put your mind to it. All you have to do is think, “In 10 years, I’ll be ______, with ______, doing ______, and I’ll be happy and successful.” Put your mind to it, and success will be at your willing.
