  1. He saw her when the doors opened. He’d been looking for her ever since that cold December day when she left with their small child. “Janie!” he yelled just as the doors shut. He smashed his fist against a subway pillar.

  2. dirty, yellow thing that moves underground why did I think yellow? Because of the sandwich and I think yellow because of their logo so I guess I have lost something to conditioning for that word because of damn advertisements I see a lot of subway billboards.

  3. the bristling backs of hundreds of people enveloped in their routine. Mind the gap she says as i lean into the railing, mind what gap? The sypathy gap? the large gap? What gap have I fallen into that I need to mind?

  4. i JUST GOT NEW SUbway tile in my bathroom showers. Luckily this is in no way evocative of an actual New York subway, which is more of a homeless urinal than a mode of transporation.

  7. intestinal, the digestive tract of a city, perhaps even respiratory. who knows why or how or when or what or which or whatever, but we all know that usually it works, to get me to you, you to me, them to us, us to them, hello, goodbye, goodbye, hello. my people, your people, our people. the subway carries the people we are.

  8. High speeds. Electricity pulsing through rails. Time. Busy. Rush rush rush. Dark tunnels. Chain restaurants. Subway good sandwiches not as good as Quiznos. Subways… odd smells- crazies rapping. People continuing monotonous lives. Jumping in front of trains.

  9. She sat in the subwasy station. No ticket, no confidence. She watched the people get on the subway, be rushed away, and then be replaced by new faces. She wished she could just step on and see where it took her. Away. But she would never be brave enough. She stood up and walked away, a lock of her red hair on the wrong side of her part and her eyes framed in a soft, tragic pink.

  15. subway is the name of a chain of restaurants. They are a monstrosity. Every time i walk into one, i feel sick. They are disgusting.

It is also the name of a subterranean train popular in large cities, notably New York City.

  16. i was on the subway when i saw a man in a cowboy hat and a woman wearing red sparkly shoes and a bright yellow sun dress, i thought to myself. 18. I enjoy sandwiches alot. I used to take a sandwich everyday to school when I was little and it makes me sad that I don’t have time to prepare lunch for myself anymore. I usually just wait till I get home from classes and eat the first thing I find.

  19. I enjoy the subway. I like the hypnotic clickety clack sound, the many people you can watch. It is a fast way to get from one place to another. I sometimes just get lulled to sleep, and other times I have fun watching the people. The subway is one of the best things about NYC.

  20. I’ve never been on a subway. The dominant way isn’t for me either. I guess I drift between them hoping to find something different. Every now and then you pass someone on the subway meeting with someone on domway. Who knows what happens there.

  21. subway.
    the underground.

    “the river of perceptions
    flowing beneath the surface”

    i’m a parrot, i’m a
    cheat. use someone else’s words
    to make perfection.

    at least they know.
    at least they know and
    call me perfect anyway.

    but underneath,
    i’m still a liar.

  22. I went to the subway this afternoon. It was cold and lonely, even though there were tons of people around me. I sniffed at my coffee, it felt warm in my hands and left me feeling like I wasn’t alone in the world. As I took a sip I looked around me at the people passing me by. The people were cold, and almost lifeless. Even the children didn’t have any sparkle in their eyes, they looks almost like ghouls.

  23. I tried to read to his mind. After almost a year, I have doubts at times. Gone were the days he was everything to me. After my lesson last night, like other times he was there waiting for me. The way he greeted me, that mellow voice, just gave it away. something just wasn’t roght

  24. an underground passage or maybe a place where you buy sandwiches or a metro system. sandwiches are australian in origin. underpass terminology is american i think but should this be about definitions?

  25. Hm, I actually didn’t know this was an actual word. I like the place though, with it’s five dollar foot longs and such. I’m going to assume that subway, means something along the lines of a secondary route. Maybe?

  26. i sat there on the subway, reading my newspaper. He looked up at me. He just glanced. As he set his head back down he smiled. Just a smirk. I looked at him. He’s cute. I smiled too. For the longest time we just took turns glancing and smiling, glancing and smiling. Oh I’m interested.

  27. She was waiting on the subway train. He was standing beside her, suitcase in hand. He didn’t know what to say, but he kept looking at his watch nervously. His eyes constantly creeped over to her, but he couldn’t form a word to say. She blushed but was secretly amused.

  28. isn’t it crazy how we got to build a train that runs right under our feet, as we speak ? for i assume you live in a city too, as now more than half of the human population lives in cities

  29. Always Stand clear of the closing doors please.
    Why so polite?
Why leave the next seat open?

    Smells

    No one looks at you
    Hear electricity

  30. I’ve never been to the subway. In movies, shit always goes down in subways. Trains go off the tracks, bomb threats are made, people are stabbed, graffiti is abundant, and people are crammed.

Sounds like something I’d like to try.

  31. Artful graffiti is scrawled along the subway car and the walls and the ceilings and the floors. Those corroded floors of tile turned to muck. The loud noises when you stand too close. Don’t stand to close. You just might…

“I’ll lost my signal in a second anyway,” he thought.

  35. The subway is downtown. Mostly. It’s kinda empty, even when it’s full. Go from one place to another, and take a nap while you wait for your destination. It’s not really a place to be, just an inbetween.

  39. Great food. I love Subway, and the food relates to the train system, no? Fast, healthy, keeps you going — the subway is filled with darkness. Don’t go in there alone. Don’t eat the sandwhich alone. It’s going to eat you up. I know it’s hard to eat one by yourself, just don’t throw it away!!

  40. Standing in the subway, waiting.
    Waiting for the train

Every few minutes it passes by
    I don’t enter
    I don’t go with it
I don’t think about what I might miss
or why I do not enter

    I just do not enter

    It passes me by
    over and over again
    and I just stand there.

Sometimes I wonder if I should leave the station
    or board the train away.
