I still remember all the words to the chorus of that song and it plays in my head whenever I read or hear the word steady.
It felt like I was flying. As we ran through the fields we were unstoppable. We leaped over the fallen trees and dodged the low tree branches. I could not stop. it was wonderful but, I went back to my sister.
Steady. Stay steady. If you falter, people will die. Steady, steady steady. Don’t think of anything else. Everyone’s life depends on this. Steady, steady, steady.
He didn’t move. There was no flinch, even in the soft spot around his eyes. She struck him with truth from her tongue but he could only absorb the shock. It was too late to avoid the honesty. I was trying to keep a steady pace in my 500. I knew that if I didn’t win this, conflict would embroil between the team because this race decided if we would win the meet. I was screaming at myself t to go faster underwater.
I am slow and steady, yes sometimes to slow, but eventually, just like that saying goes, slow and steady wins the race. It is about consistency, about sticking with what you need to do, even if it is hard, and even if at times you want to give up. Steady is perfect, it is solid, even if the entire world is falling apart.

Sometimes, you even get a ring for that, but so far, he hasn’t given her one. You know he will, though, he’s that kind of guy. You look at yourself in the mirror and see, for the first time, all the great reasons why he wants to go steady with you. But here is what you don’t know: The reason he wants to go steady with you is very different from the reason why you want to go steady with him. Your brother fills you in on this when you tell him, just to brag more than anything else, that you and this kid are going steady. “Yeah, he wants to get into your pants and he knows that he’s got to make certain sacrifices in order to do that. Man, you are so clueless.” When your brother says this, you ask yourself two questions: Why is my brother always so mean to me? And, Is he right about this?
