  1. My mother always took me to Sunday school. They’d talk about Jesus, and him being our shepherd or what not. It seemed like nonsense to me then. But after that car crash that killed me three years ago. I’m getting really tired of eating grass.

  3. Shepherd.

I can’t even spell that right and properly, but I know what it stands for. It’s supposed to bring good images and things into my head, but suddenly, I don’t feel all good about it. I feel frustrated and confused and confuddled.

    I feel guilty.

Why do I feel like that? Why does it matter? It’s just one word! All the things that come with it are different for different people. It’s relative. It’s all relative, but still…

    by Janna on 10.25.2011
  22. The Lord is my Shepherd. Shepherds heard sheep, or, in Jesus’ case, heard people, watching over and protecting them. They are strong enough to kill lions with their bare hands and wooden staffs, at least they are when described during biblical times…which is pretty awesome. Shepherds are just pretty darn awesome! :D

  23. Shepherds make the best heroes.
They’re honest and simple and so easy to paint anyway you like.
They be complex loners or they can be modest fathers or they can be daydreaming romantics.
A shepherd can be anything. A shepherd can be anyone.

  24. Who are you? Do you think you are one of those “cool kids” who hooks up with every person you can find and gets drunk on the weekends? One of the jocks who is good at everything? Are you the quiet kid in the back of the classroom, too afraid to admit that your dad beats you and your mother is on the verge of dying? Are you the one leading others astray like a blind shepherd, unknowingly close to your downfall? Are you the perfect one who has it all together on the outside, but is struggling with an addiction?
Or are you so lost with trying to be somebody else that you don’t even know who you are anymore?

  25. My boyfriend isn’t a shepherd, but he is a real country boy. Can I city-fy him? He seems intent on resisting it. Perhaps it’s because he feels intimidated by city people? Let’s face it, the mentality is totally different. I don’t want to completely city-fy him, just open his mind a little bit… that’s all….

  26. sheep. that’s the only thing that comes to mind. oh! no, actually, a photo comes to mind, taken by my blog buddy over at MostlyBrightIdeas.com. he went on a trip to Italy and took a magnificent photo of a shepherd. there was so much to see in that man’s eyes.

  27. This work is relaxing yet stressful. If he lost a sheep, he would never be able to forgive himself, and wouldn’t know hot to tell the owner. But the fresh mountain air was worth the world.

by Nicci van Gelder on 10.25.2011
  28. He hadn’t meant to stare. The castle guards were guiding the crowd of people down the road, pushing and shoving those who dared to fall behind the main group.

It was not a pleasant sight. Most of the crowd had been injured at one time or another, and their bones showed clearly through their skin.

  29. He sighs. 99 sheep. Where is the one that was lost? Leaving the 99 that he had, the shepherd goes to look for the small insignificant sheep that had wandered off. Although he could lose more sheep, he is only concerned with bringing back the one he lost. Only when he finds it will he be happy and return to the faithful sheep. That one lost sheep is me.

  30. i immediately think of that old story, of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. but somehow i always forget about the dog who protects the sheep. he sees though the wolfs disguise and protects the defenselessly blind sheep. he commits his life to this act, yet the sheep hardly recognizes him.
so i wonder (if i am so blinded as a sheep): who is my shepherd dog? do i know him already?

everyone has a protector, no matter how disguised they are.

  31. i just finished writing about religion, so of course i’m in a jesus-y mood. which kills me, because it seems so catholic-school-conventional. but there you have it. jesus is a shepherd. we are the flock. because that’s what the bible says. so it must be true. i’m not sure why i have a problem with this, but apparently i do. or did that not come off?

  32. The endless hill were framed by the seemingly daunting trees, as they converged with the deep blue sky and the burning sun. Not to say the trees were scary, but on the edge of the plain, they were an odd sight indeed. Seemingly painted onto the endless plain.

  33. Shepherd is a name; it can also be a job. It is something people do for other people–parents shepherd their children through their childhood. Jesus was the good shepherd.

  34. Do people still become shepherds? Is that a viable career path? Are there benefits? And what is the proper term for that question-mark hooked staff they all have in the old illustrations? Never-mind, I don’t even care.

  35. He never meant to lead them astray, those little balls of white fluff. Yet it was so easy. He could tell them to run off into wolf’s territory, and they wouldn’t beg for his apology. No. They were his subjects, his toys.
Yet he didn’t hurt them. They were his food and money source… No use losing them now

  36. Push. Pull. Guide. Lead. Shape. Facilitate. Appreciate. Yes, I still masturbate. But far less frequently. I suppose I need to work on that. Did I ever consider myself a shepherd? No. More like a persistent, whiny person who liked to tell people what to do. Things have changed. But I am still whiny.

  37. Christmas.
One of her favorite songs was “Shepherds in the Field Abiding”
It played through her head constantly.
It brought about a sense of warmth, imagining them in the cold of the night, seeing the blazing star in the sky.
    A glowing gold.
She could not wait, the thoughts it made her think was striking.

  38. the sepherd lead her to water
    but she did not drink
    lead her to food
    she did not eat
“what is wrong with you dear child?”
    she responded
“how do i trust one? when i do not know how to?”
    “you beleive”
he said turning to the sun
“and if you cannot trust, do not follow”
he walked away from her towards his only home
    she knew to follow
for she had no one else

  39. Be a leader. Don’t follow the herd, guide it to where it should be going. Lead by example and always treat everyone equally.

  40. He is my good shepherd, always tending, always caring. I know His voice. I know Him. He cares for me, He leads me. Quiet waters, stillness quietness, me and Him. All that I need. He restores my soul. Green pastures, abundance are mine. Gentle hand of the shepherd, My shepherd, my good Shepherd.
