I took my young son down to the beach today. He looked in amazement and the sea, the waves, the sand. All of it. He found a shell. He stared at It with fascination. “Bop” he said. “What animal did this come from.” I said that I didn’t know. “He want’s his home back.” He tossed the shell towards the waves. His toddler throw didn’t quite make it. So I picked it up….and threw the small home back into the sea.
Shell shattered on the floor, far from the sea, remnants of salt, sand, and memories. Nobody remembers what vacation it came from and she sweeps it off the kitchen floor and takes out the trash.
