As the dawn light started to touch the other structures around the temple, the monks started to wake up and walk around the grounds. The novices swept the yard, and the older monks congregated with their alms bowls.

  16. A whole new world. A world of exploration and wonder. Peeking over you realize that what you are looking for may be right in front of you. As you crane your neck forward, row upon row of identical rooftops pop into view and you come there every day from then…

  17. a swan grazes the rooftop,
    there he goes,
another chimney attached satlieete wire he furrows,

hes the swan of dandy origin,
the one whose beak gilds the crop fields,
    kills all the crow heels,
    and, from a distance,
    opens orange peels!

  18. He scampered quickly across the rooftops, barely letting the balls of his feet touch the tiles before they were off again. He recalled hearing, “Cat on a hit tin roof,” but he couldn’t remember what it related to. It didn’t matter. Escape was the only thing on his mind.

  19. As I jump from house to house casing that dumb bird, I for a second felt like a bird. Now I know why birds fly I stop and jump to the ground to find a mouse. I return home to a nice bed though the food is still the same. I go and start scratching at the chair to get some attention but the just makes my owner mad. I don’t now why because that was an ugly chair and now it looks a lot better. After I go and take over the bed, scaring any other cat or dog from my bed. Then my owner comes and kicks me off and I go and steel the poodles bed. The poodle looks like biting me but I know that he will not because I always scratch him and he don’t like that. And that was a cats fabulous day.

  20. The Rooftop of the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN. Captivating view of the MS River and downtown Memphis. You can smell the BBQ from the Rendezvous and the other restaurants down there. One of my favorite places in Memphis.

  21. The city shown brightly in the distance. I hugged my sweater tighter to my body as I neared the edge. It was so lovely up here. It was so lovely it was hard to fathom alone. But that’s what I was. Alone. My arms ached. My periphery wanted another person, off to the side, not speaking, but also there experiencing the same thing I was, looking through the eyes of this moment to the beauty that lies beyond.

  22. I danced along the rooftops, sprinkling fairy dust everywhere. Nightmares turned to pleasant dreams, and those who’d been lying awake now slept soundly.

  23. She walked without making a sound. Her grey fur shining in the moonlight. The rooftops were her territory and she guarded them fiercely. Nobody could come close to her here. She was finally safe and in control.

  25. The wind moved across the rooftops sending clouds across the sky. Taking her thoughts as the rain swept across the land. Her soul an abyss as vast as the stars.

  26. Terrible storm last night, thunder for hours, loud and menacing. Today, heavy rain all day. On my small lanai, I watched rain pouring in a steady stream from the rooftop to the ground. All afternoon I wondered if the roof would hold or would it start leaking. It’s an old building. I’m on the second (top) floor. The roof didn’t leak. The roof held. Much more reassuring than the tree which split in half at the front of my apartment, as I was coming out on the walkway. A vertical split with very rough edges and the tree fell all the way across the street into someone’s driveway. The noise was loud and menacing. Nature is terrific, in each sense of that word.

  28. Idiots everywhere shouting without care falling or jumping off rooftops
I can’t seem to make progress getting people to be not dumb
even with my second term as President of this Idiocracy.

  29. As a little kid I was super smart
Strategic and not taking retarded risk
Except for a love of climbing obelisks
Where flow of blood and winds are brisk
Scampering along brick walls to rooftops
Dreaming to be giant tall, eating ice-pops
Enjoying the birds-eye view, seeing the sunset
    Mocking Bird’s varied tune, a C3 Corvette
Now things aren’t as fun, I’m not as free
To try and grasp again such a moment
One filled with such wonder and peace.

  30. Let me shout from the rooftops
Let me scream it all out
Hear my voice echo in the mountains
All my pain leaving my lungs
Travelling the world like how I want to do
    Emptying my body
And helping me get over you

  31. rooftops. rain drops. sitting under an awning, with you. just thinking. just talking. just laughing. just friends. just friends. just friends. the rooftop at night with the city glowing back in our faces, telling those thoughts that aren’t quite secrets but that you don’t normally share.

  32. When you want to know what is going in your neighborhood, go to the rooftop. Magic happens up there. You can see what others are doing up on their rooftops. In fact, it can be interesting.

  33. There weren’t many rooftops in this neighborhood. Most of them had disappeared when the men in suits came with their large bulldozers. Now, there were only a few of us left.

  34. I love the look of snowy rooftops in the winter, the way the glistening blue-white crystals sparkle. Oh sunny February in Ohio!

  35. The tops of the houses are visible from the light pollution. From the side of a quiet mountain, where the chill has laid the noisest of insects to rest, I wonder how many people are being hid from my sight. Families eating late take-out dinners, eyes and ears dully locked to hallow laughter from a television set. A date night at home, two people sipping wine, a blanket to share and eyes locked on each other, no notice paid to any screens in the background. In another, perhaps a child cooks for themself, and no longer feels the process to be lonely. Or in the small house on the corner, with lights only on in two separate rooms, someone is making their bed on the couch, resigned that a touch shared after dark is no longer enough to save what the have, but is unwilling to step away. Cars weave between the buildings, running home, running away. Every life, every story, with equal weight. Equal to each other, equal to mine. They play out like songs in the evening, seeping through windows and trees.
The mountain is quiet, with only the faint sound of strings escaping through my lips.

  36. i used to sit on rooftops with my friends. We would sneak up there and drink, smoke, laugh and cry. I grew up up there the the rooftop. My first kiss happened up there. We were sitting there watching the stars. And I still watch the stars. On that rooftop I tried to jump, to be with the stars. To me the rooftop was the closest thing to something more. up there I saw everything. all the lives below me, and all the lives gone above me. I still sit on rooftops. And i still watch the stars.

  37. I think of Florence when I think of rooftops. Florence Italy. One of the prettiest, deepest, most beautiful places you will ever see. Go see it if you haven’t. Get yourself on a plane, even if you wind up owing a fortune on your credit card, and get there. There isn’t a street or a shop or a church you’ll regret seeing. You’ll walk into a great big church and see something that one of the world’s greatest artist made out of stone. You’ll hear the Italian language, a beautiful sound that makes you feel warm and wanted. And when you take a seat in any restaurant, you will want to eat even before you see the menu. The smells, what are they? Just great food that tastes the way it smells. The waiter will make you feel as though you’ve known him all your life and he’ll regret you’ve never been there before because it means you’ve missed so much. But no worries, you’re there now and you will not be disappointed. It is impossible to be disappointed in Florence. And make sure you stand in a place where you can see all the colors of all the rooftops in the city. That is the glory of the place. And when you’re leaving, don’t despair. I promise you, as you will promise yourself: You will go back.

  40. We flew over rooftops and found gold coins buried in the mouths of petrified gods. We sank into streams and grew music in fresh soil, listening to each growing stalk sing. We thought about invading Heaven and taking over the paradise, but we were too tired after such a long, fun day. We settled on drinking a bottle of wine each, while the trains rolled over our toes.
