  1. Relatives… Oh my! How many things pop into mind when I hear that! I immediately think of my parents, my sister, my aunts, my uncles, my cousins! I wish I were closer to some of them, especially my older cousin. We have so much in common. Oh, the time we spend together on the holidays! Quiet but nice.

  5. She dreaded going home every time because her parents would always take her to 50 different relatives. It’s like being introduced to a new group of people each time. They are linked by blood, but such superficial formalities and socializing that she had to endure, it made her dizzy.

  6. relatively to strangers relatives are nerve-wracking, frustrating, even more devastatingly obnoxious, but we learn to love them. they love us, so ,why not. unfortunately someimes its difficult to see in their minds.

  7. My relatives come from a series of immigrants from the Old World, much like many have in this country. They shake off criticism like soap from wet hands; they tidy our house. Often, they will scream and laugh too loudly and be so drunk you can’t count the bottles they’re strewn about your living room floor. Still, at least in sobriety they are brothers and sisters. Your ancestors watch from where they are, singing with pride that your relative watch over you. Protection is a purely human desire when coming from the nondescript and uncondicional love passed on to you. These are the people who have loved you just for being born, for being you. They are obliged, and so, in turn, are you.

  8. Nothing so embodies love and hate as your own relatives. Can’t live with them; can’t live without them.

  10. Everyone says their relatives are crazy and always complains about how annoying they are. Be thankful for the people around you that love you. Get over your humanistic complaints. There is one thing in this world that won’t crumble: family.
    That is all.

  11. I have a ton of relatives. On my mom’s side, I have about seventy cousins, mostly because my mom had ten siblings. She’s the oldest.

My dad’s side of the family is quite a bit smaller. He’s the oldest of five kids, and I only around ten-fifteen cousins on that side, mostly boys.

They all live in diverse places, so I don’t see them very much. Perhaps once or twice a year.

  13. We weren’t so close to our family. In fact, we hated family. It was a pretty reasonable thing, really, since my grandfather’s family didn’t even consider us related and everyone on my grandmother’s side hated everyone.

  14. I found in my dreams my relatives were chasing me, in the midst of a January sea breeze I was running away from me. I can’t wait to see their faces again, smiling and chasing me, again.

  18. After the guests left the backyard, one of her relatives found a golden ring hidden beneath the burger buns. Wiping off the vomit, she noticed a small, engraving: “Sammy.” Who was this dog?

    by Jeni on 01.26.2011
  22. Relatives. My brother. The little brother who is taller than me but still a kid, and I live so far away and I wish I could be there for him right now, because what happened is so sad and a 12 year old shouldn’t have to feel like that and because I want to protect him for shit like that.

  23. I have no relatives. I have no parents or friends. I am a single being, built for the purpose of being alone, and staying that way forever.

  24. I have a number of crazy relatives, Italian and German alike. The combination can be frightening at times, but beautiful as well. Imagine a holiday in the average W.A.S.P. household, then add ten times the alcohol and 40 decibels to the sound. Then perhaps my life can be imagined.

  27. our the people we have when no one else is there. they can annoy us, betray us, but in the end they love us. or do they love us? our relatives the one group of people we can trust or the group of people we shouldn’t trust. the people that will sell us out to the media, or stand by us in court when the public shames our names. it is true you can’t pick your family, but it in the end all we have is family.

  28. My relatives are mostly heterosexual. I am not sure about some distant relatives, but certainly there are no gays in my immediate family. Not that I’d have a problem with that. Not at all. Just the first thing that popped into my head.

    Relatives are cool.

    by Pete on 01.26.2011
  29. They are a pain. Seriously. I love them, but… I’m happy I DON’T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THEM. Much. Once a month.

  30. some of my relatives really piss me off. Pretty sure my grandmother is going crazy, she is so rude these days and just says whatever the hell she wants because she is old and she thinks she can get away with it. I love my cousins for the most part, they are my best friends, but I hate one of them. Clint. well, hated, I am trying to get over it.

  31. As you walk forward, you feel them,
the chains of anger and love,
placed there by hands both tangible and unseen,
and as you sit silently at the dinner table,
    surrounded by these relatives,
    you can’t help but wonder:
    which will strangle you first?

  32. relatives are very important in a person’s life. Lives are built through relationships, through struggles, and through greatness in families. Families are the heart of a thriving economy. Relatives keep us in check and keep our hearts and minds in the right place at the right time. What would one do without relatives? He would be lost.

    by Adam Moseley on 01.26.2011
  33. I have lots of relatives. some people marry their relatives, but I don’t do that because I think it’s weird. My relatives are really strange. One time my aunt sang the sound of music with her mouth guard in. Good times. I like my family, though. I think relatives are called that, because they’re related to you. Or something l

  34. Ugh, relatives. Mine range from mostly normal, upstanding citizens to complete deadbeats with drug addictions and no jobs. Two of my uncles lived at home with my grandma until the day she died, when they were in their 40’s. Sometimes I think it’s a miracle I turned out well at all.

  35. relatively speaking, relatives are seen to be people that are to help us in life’s journey, to provide a source of light, to lead us in the right direction. but in reality, relatives are relatively useless, as they are preoccupied with their own issues, complexities, and figuring out how to turn on said light.

  36. Theory of Relatives:
I’m not a science inclined person at all, so this basic understanding and explanation of the Einstein’s theory could be completely off base, however I also don’t really care.
I believe the theory of relativity at least partly has to do with one’s interaction with time is directly related to its relationship with it’s current speed. I’d say there is potential for a similar theory to be developed for interpersonal interaction; your relationships, romantic and otherwise, are directly related to your relationships with your relatives.
Or I’m just looking for an excuse.

  37. This one just makes me think of betrayal and hate. I can’t even write about this, it’s insane. Relatives are the worst people to trust or love. They hurt you the most, and, usually, they mean it.

  38. relatives are everything, people things situations, our sole purpose is to become relatives with our lives and ourself.the relativity of things makes things interesting and worth watching.relativity does not mean similarity, its the only way for loneliness to become meaningfull

  39. Holy shit – relatives. The word I used to love but now make my skin crawl. The ones you think you can trust the most end up screwing the most.

  40. Well relatives can mean lots of things but the first thing i think of is family. I love my relatives even though they are a little crazy but really who doesn’t have crazy relatives? I’m pretty sure life wouldn’t be worth living without family and friends. Relatives is what makes christmas fun!
