  1. You know you’re reaching for something too far away from you, my darling. You know you can’t actually grab a star if you can’t even make it to the moon. Even if you brought back a lunar lump of something celestially extraordinary, I’m not sure she’d even bat a single eyelash in your direction.

Just as well – keep your fingers on the highest shelf you can touch. There are good things to snatch from there, good things to keep a hold on.

  7. Sometimes in my dreams, you are still here. Alive and well and breathing.
And rarely, when I am out and about… Someone resembling you crosses my path, and for a second I imagine it being you. That you faked your own death and are living a happy life now. Once the stranger turns around, reality crashes down on me. You are gone and I won’t ever be able to see you smile again. To see you truly happy, one last time.
You made one rash, but final decision and erased yourself from existance.

  20. Glacier tracks up my spine,
    migration of sacrificial hope
laid bare on a pyre –
“If I give a little more,
can I reach a little higher?”

    If I dropped a match

Everything else in my life, at the moment, had been toxic. Everyone else, too. The girl at the counter, eyeing me as if I were the largest disgrace she had seen in her lifetime. I was reaching for the one thing that was sure to not kill me, but instead, let me feel something.

The blood had already been shed.

  29. In life, we’re constantly reaching for happiness. Tiring efforts and yet they always return little to no results. Or at least not a satisfying results.

Maybe this due to our continuous efforts. For if we’re always chasing, can we even reach a destination?

It’s like a rabbit chasing a carrot on a stick, no matter how fast or far we run, that prize will always be a stick away. It will always be out of our grasps.

We will always be reaching unless we learn to be content. That is where true happiness can only lie.

  31. “I’ll get there someday”, I told myself. The setting sun on the horizon stretched out before me, bathing the treeline below my mountain-side vantage in a blanket of gold. I walked forward and opened the wide glass doors from the bedroom to the picturesque balcony outside and stepped out for a moment to take in the whole scene. Instinctively I reached my hand out towards the sun, wanting to hold it in place to keep that moment alive just a while longer.
“Someday,” I continued to myself, “Someday *I’ll* be the one with the beautiful house in the mountains getting robbed.” I then turned back inside and continued with my burglary.

  32. reaching up to the top shelf. i grabbed the cake down. i sat on the kitchen floor and touched the chocolate cake. was i going to do this? I wanted to YOLO and eat it for the instant gratification but I also couldn’t put on weight. OUr society was so fixated on weight and I was no exception. it was “one moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips” they said. this food was only supposed to be for a special occasion so why the bloody hell had mum bought it? i felt sudden anger and i stood up and threw the cake in the bin.

  33. I turned to my side and reached out. Thin air is all I got. I had been dreaming again. This dream was the window to the parallel world. I reached out to jump into it, only to get a bump in my head. That time was gone. That touch was gone. All I was left with was the sensation of the possibilities and ache in my belly of having had a chance. Only if I had reached out more or maybe had not reached out at all. The all too familiar what ifs, the all too familiar curl in a ball sensation!

  34. you’re watching the sunset with the only boy you’ve ever been in love with. it’s something the both of you do every once in a while. he’s always the one who begs you to see it with him. and when you give in, he smiles so wide, so it’s worth it you guess.

right now, you’re both sitting on the roof of his house. the tiles of the roof are digging into your spine, but the feeling is easy to ignore while you stare at his profile. his brown hair was simple but it looked like it was glowing in the orange light. you make sure that when he looks at you, you look back at the dropping orb of light in the sky. you’d rather watch him then the sunset; you’re the type of person who thinks once you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.

glancing down at his hand, you become painfully aware of the distance between your hand and his. you stretch your pinky out, peek up through your eyelashes to see if he notices and when he doesn’t, you scoot it further. “i never get tired of this.” he says and you start, immediately retracting your hand back. “yeah. it’s great.” you reply but there’s an ache in your chest now when you look back down at his hand.

  36. i reach for it, these goals, they seem so far away. i reach and reach and i may never get there… but the trying is what i live for, writing is what i live for. i may never reach those goals… but in the reaching i will get further than if i hadn’t ever lifted my arms to try
