I once had the same glowstick for a year. By the end it didn’t even glow and I was just the guy with the plastic sticks at concerts. That’s not why no one liked me but I can’t imagine it helped.

    we are one
in a rush and a whirr

to feel the pulse to feel the cry
    we are one

And while the modem was screeching and chirping in its little internet language she was sitting there horrified at what she saw on the screen, the months and months of messages that spelled out as surely as a postcard, as surely as block letters on a brick hurled through a window, “I’m having an affair.”

  36. We used to have a modem at home. I thought it worked pretty nice. It was small, black, with little green lights. When I was small, I’d turn the thing on, with the computer, and I’d watch the lights flash orange, then flash green, then solid green. This would be accompanied by the loud sound of my computer turning on.
