But she wasn’t paying attention to herself. All these years she had forgotten who she really was and became what they wanted her to be. She had left behind all the things that made her well, her. She slowly ripped off pieces of herself. From what she found funny, to what made her happy. She hated cheerleading. She only did it because her friends liked it. She realized in that moment when everybody was screaming and cheering, that it wasn’t worth it. No matter how loud the cheering was, or how many people knew her name, it wasn’t worth her leaving who she was, behind. They knew her name, they knew she was a cheerleader, but what they didn’t know was, the real her. The real her, that loves reading, and loves history. The version of her she had forced out of her mind. The version that liked visiting art museums and helping the elderly. She pushed that aside, for what she thought was more important; other’s approval.
