  1. She felt them everywhere, all over her skin. It had been years since she had felt like this, but here it was, back with a vengeance. She jumped out of bed and tried walking the circumference o f the room. It hadn’t helped.

  2. You were infested with a bug. The bugs that like to feed on fear of little children and hope to one day be bigger than themselves. These infestations are just another thing in life that people have to deal with. They never go away, you’ll always just be a little kid to them.

  3. It was an unbearably hot apartment, if you could even call it an apartment at all. We could not afford to run the small AC unit in the bedroom. It was infested with roaches when we got there. German wood roaches, the kind that get into your electronics: laptops, microwaves, digital alarm clocks. They even manage to invade your refrigerator.I feel sick when I remember that time and that place: a young, sort-of single mother, wanting to be loved, to give love, to move to a place where her child could dream, without bugs, kissed by cool evening air, soft summer breeze.I pray for the mothers who wake every morning in a heat eternal, where the struggle to find easy breath, the burn of their feet to the fire never ends. I would say to them: this ugly place is not your home. It is only a house of wood or brick, and houses, no matter how sturdy they seem, can change.Your home is your heart and I hope there you find a breeze: cool and gentle, to carry you to a knowing of possibility and a belief that things can change: that the world, that this day, can and will be better than all that we can see and know.

    Full of hate and anger.
As the rage of the flames continue to burn my soul,

  10. The entire apartment was infested with them. Creeping, crawling, making strange noises. Pretending that they could fly without wings. Leaving everything rotten, every food product ruined, every can emptied. They were attracted to sugar, to alcohol, to salt, to everything. I didn’t know what to do.

    So I called an exterminator.

“Ah, the hipsters,” she chuckled as she surveyed the problem. “I’ll play mainstream pop and have ’em out in no time.”

  13. People can have bed bugs infest their home if they purchase used mattresses or bedding from another person who had an infested home. I would wash all used bedding in hot water and dry on high heat to reduce your chance of bringing them into your home.
