  2. The drive is icy, a long downward sheet of trouble, and I stand as best I can, hacking at it with the blade of a shovel. I feel gravity snatching at my body, the incremental slide towards the bone-crack of the asphalt. I’m a rope-walker balanced on a thread, and happy puffs of effort stream from me into the approving blue.

    by Brian Slusher on 08.01.2009
  3. I’m not thinking. I’m only submerged in these icy depths, floating just underneath the surface of these mini iceburgs crashing all around my air and stealing my breath. I feel so starkly alive, and I can feel my blood dying. It’s quite something, if only you could experience it, darling. It’s a nice wake up call, I think. But unfortunately, my time is up, and I can live no more.

  4. Everything was icy. Snow fell and coated everything in little white flowers. My hand was blue, even though it was embarrassed by hers. I raised my head away from the snow and looked at her. She looked so peaceful. Her blue eyes stared into mine. Icy… Her eyes were so icy… but they melted my heart.

  11. we sipped our way
    through millions of bubbles
    of champagne —
    it was icy, our throats
covered in frost by the end
    of the night.
    our heat had malfunctioned

    wandering hands and mouths
    made up for it.
