  2. I jump in like a heatwave
going in like boom, in a trance like im dance at a rave
no matter what, you can’t escape me, like youre my slave
i be standing over you like that old king Dave

I ride in on the heat
i be spitting on the beat
    stretching out the concrete
anyone in the way will be beat
anyone standing shelterless on the street
i cook up all your meat
i fall down on you harder than the sleet
    warming up your seat
    to the point of defeat
    bring me out my sheets
i’ll put it down so neat
energy and life growing like the wheat

  3. Sitting on the couch, the heavy air and the soft cushions pushed in all around on my weak limbs. Silver sweat was on his brow as well, but his crossed arms sneered against the will of the humidity and against my sluggishness.

  4. The humidity rolls over the city like a cloud that weighs us all down in thick, sticky air. That’s what it feels like to be politically enraged – an inescapable heatwave.

  5. The heatwave outside meant that when Zoe finally entered the sheriff’s station, she shivered at the blast of cool air that enveloped her. The soothing coolness didn’t last long though. Inside the station, doing pull-ups and sweating up a storm, was Jo, the unreasonably good-looking deputy sheriff.

  6. the cherry popsicle dripped under the hot sun–fat, pink droplets racing down the sugary ice stick, pooling around the sweaty fingers that gripped the wooden popsicle stick. L slurped at the popsicle lustily.

  7. I decided to stay at home for the weekend. No one in their right mind would venture out when there is a heatwave pushing temps to above 110!! It was 115 in disneyland or hell!

  8. In a world where you can walk a short distance from one air conditioned space to the next, heatwaves are not as much of an issue. Before you even start to sweat, you start cooling off in the next air conditioned space.

  9. I am not sure if heatwaves technically exist in Georgia anymore. The concept of “heatwaves” implies that at some point it was not already disastrously hot outside. We have “cold fronts”, but nobody ever really mentions heatwaves. Complaining about heat in the south is like complaining about salt in the ocean.

  10. ‘If I wanted to know what I think, I wouldn’t ask you,’ she said.

It was a heatwave, she was dressed like a polar bear, but there was nothing I could do or say: she was right, I was wrong, as always.

‘You do not need to let me know what is appropriate to wear here; I know better than you.’ As she spoke spittle flew out of her mouth, her face turned a deeper shade of red.

All I could think of was getting into the shade, standing as far away from her as possible, and then I could feel better. The heat was getting to me too and I needed to settle down and relax. If she kept this up, I would have to deck her, to stop her having a heart attack right here. It would be for her own best interests, I could argue, as well as my own mental health.

  11. Sweltering, simmering, nay not a pot of
Gold fever, the swell of life’s mid-
    Uncertainties. Ingots naught,
    an autumn and winter’s everlasting.

    by Issie Kay on 07.09.2018
  12. Woosh. A gigantic gust of hot wind ran through the town.

“Run!” somebody yelled. “The heatwave is back!”

The townspeople rushed to close up all gaps and shut themselves indoors.

  28. I was just thinking about the heatwave and I had just turned on my little fan before I clicked this thing. Very aptly chosen prompt for the day, owners of oneword.com. The world is a strange, often wonderful and often heartbreaking place. It may be the lone bastion for life and we, humanity, seek to drain and destroy it.

  29. We were barely hanging on to life when the heatwave took over the battlefield. By then, water supplies had dwindled to almost nothing, and those who weren’t dehydrated quickly succumbed to heat stroke. It was, allegedly, record-breaking, the earth scorched and the grass turned brown by the time the pressure eased off and winds began to blow again.

I cradled my sergeant in my arms on the last day and tried to give her my canteen of water. But she refused to take a single sip.
