  1. My mother makes gourmet food or at least tries to. She watches like five-thousand cooking shows then places a plate of “gourmet” food in front of us. I hope I don’t hurt her feelings by not eating it.

  2. There was a lot of food, it was everywhere. The girl had never seen so much food in her life nor had she imagined she’d ever be able to perceive this much food. Turkey, cavier, goose, duck… it was a feast. The only problem was, the feast wasn’t for her; it was for her brother and her father. Women ate on Tuesdays and Thursdays whenever they wanted, that had been the law since she could remember. Women ate on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and every other day they were only allowed to eat bread and water.

It’s the greatest . IAnd it’s poor people food. It’s what they ate when all the meat twas gone, all the vegetables except the most prolific, which were tomatoes in the summer.

  17. once you smell the garlic and thyme, basil and acrid sweat of a five star kitchen your stomach plummets to the depths of hunger. a fat italian head chef chortles behind this black whiskers. pies as crumbly as the faces that dine there.

  18. Gourmet could be many things, not nescessarily just high-quality food. Gourmet should, (key word should) be used to describe anything fancy, not just a chefs absolute best, for example…
“look at my new gourmet Versace Shoes!”
This Island Vacation is absolutely gourmet!
I love the gourmet look of this painting!
    What a gourmet idea!
    She looks gourmet!
See what I mean? It just fits. Gourmet should be used in any way to describe something beautiful, enjoyable or of high quality.

  19. This was her first time doing this. She had made many gourmet meals in the past it’s just this was her chance. She had gotten the order and she was to follow through. One gourmet meal with almonds and a hint of extra almond taste, damn them to hell if they wanted to stop this revolution.

  22. So I can’t cook gourmet. But he doesn’t care. He loves everything I make anyway. I try hard, but I still cook like a mamma does. It’s not fancy, but it sure does taste good, and usually it’s good for you. I love creating new dishes and not following directions, perhaps my food is my art.

  23. A lovely variety of spice and expertise. Life should be this way every day.

  24. Rod Carlson rose from the dining room table to answer the front door, albeit rather angrily, perturbed that someone had not thought it too late to bother him and his family in the middle of their dinner, his favorite of the week — Thursday — Beef Stroganoff night. When Rod opened the front door he only got halfway through a very aggressive “Can I help you?” Which came out, “Can I –” Before the person on the opposite side of the door interjected, “Yes, Rod, you can.” That person was Jesus. Jesus, as in the Christ, not the Mexican. “Jesus Christ,” Rod said. And Jesus didn’t say anything because he knew Rod meant the expletive, not his name, and, frankly, Jesus was tired of being the straight man for that same, tired joke. In fact, if Jesus wasn’t the same forgiving Jesus we all knew and loved today (save for the atheists, who saw Jesus as more of a spoiled, silver-spoon Mitt Romney type) he might have started sending people to hell for these awful, awful jokes. Rod stepped aside and waved Jesus in. “Please,” he said, “Come in.” And Jesus did. And then he drank Rod’s blood. Because everybody knows that vampires can’t come into your house unless you invite them in yourself.

  25. It’s delicious. Gourmet gives food that extra umph, that little touch that makes it that much better than other foods. You picture it on those wavy square plates with the green herbs and succulence. Honestly, though, is it any different than something that’s not “gourmet”?

  28. He fancied himself a gourmet, looked down his nose at his mother’s plain, old-fashioned cooking. He was forgetting that it was her abilities to cook fresh, ordinary food that saved the family enough money so that he wouldn’t need to get a student loan.

  31. The girl sat down at the table, wondering what her parents were cooking for dinner. One thing was certain. They would tell her it was gourmet. They told her EVERYTHING was gourmet. That was their new word. You see, Lina’s parents weren’t the normal type. They were a bit… As some would say, off their rocker. They were truly and totally insane. They had been in a mental hospital before, but now they lived in assisted mental apartments, so the Lina could stay with them.

  32. gourmet is just a fancy word for food right? I mean, food is always food. So why should it matter if its good, or bad, as long as it does its job. Some people cant even get the disgusting food we get in cafeterias. It shouldn’t matter if its gourmet or not.

    by Julie on 03.10.2012
  33. Gourmet food is difficult to make. My father was a chef once and he had a hard time doing it. Even now he doesn’t cook much. Maybe he can only cook gourmet and it’s much much too difficult now. I wish he would cook for us more. That would be fantastic.

  34. The fries were as greasy as they were supposed to be. She was finally in her element, standing over a deep fryer that smelled like fat and a grill that had been charred black over the years. She glanced around at the other fry cook, who was sweating up a storm, and leaned over to grab the spatula. She smiled to herself.

  35. The steamy, juicy chicken melted in her mouth.
“Cut!” called the director, “that’s a wrap”.
She spat it out into the strategically placed bin under the styrofoam counter.
    “Thank God”, she muttered.

  36. cooking…so hard and so time consuming, but so worth all the work! I love when a recipe turns out like you imagined…or even better. I like learning about new kinds of food and how to prepare them. I used to think that gourmet cooking was for people with too much time on their hands, not I know it’s for people who choose to spend their time on patience.

  37. I couldn’t believe where I was. It was too elegant, too perfect for a girl like me. I had just met her. She took me in like I was a stray. I am a stray. She smiled as she helped me get dressed. I hadn’t been so polished since the day I was born. It was lovely. A lovely place to be on a starry night like tonight.

  39. You prepare a gourmet dinner for sixteen guests, all wearing frills and ruffles and smoking cigars. You fill snifters with your father’s brandy and watch the gold fade to pewter once it’s swished around in gaping mouths, red tongues flapping wet with alcohol and gossip and words you’d usually never speak.

Your uncle loves these parties and he insists that you host them. But in the end, you only wish to fade into the wallpaper as they laugh, belch, and rave.
