“Yeah, I’ve got the goods. You got the money?”

“Yep,” growled the masked man. “But I want to see it first.”

It was in bags, in suitcases, in boxes, and in crates. Bundles upon bundles of green printed bills, with scowling Jacksons and smarmy Franklins and gruff Grants. The masked man wanted to count the money gleefully, but he knew that would take too much time. He set down his own bag and sighed.

  32. There was a 10 stories high parking lot tucked in the heart of downtown and me and my friends always visited the place to watch the sunset.

As we climbed up the stairs, the enjoyment we felt was indescribable. It was like we were little kids again, jumping up and down for joy, awaiting a surprise. In our hands were often local baked goods from a store nearby, cameras or chinese takeout. ”Quick! Hurry up! We need to see the pink sky!”, yelled the one of us, breathing desperately.

When we reached the top, we saw a magnificent skyline of our city. In the background, there were cotton candy clouds which soon turned into crimson red streaks and then a darker wallpaper (and sometimes a gloomy sunset, of course) appeared. Within those half hours, we cherished every single minute of it. We even sung and danced with no music sometimes. We ate, laughed, and shared stories. We shouted to the sky, ”this is what life is all about!”. In that moment, as we looked up to see the silhouettes of the skyscrapers and bokeh, we felt incredible.

The nights always ended with hugs, kisses and goodbyes at the subway station. We giggled when we yelled each other’s names across the station and by the time we got on the train, we were already planning our next visit to our not-so-secret hangout spot.

A few years later, the parking lot was torn down and we too, took our separate ways in life. Nowadays I would still make trips to the street where it once gloriously stood. As I stand there, all I can do is reminisce and smile.

    Ahh, the good old days.

  36. It was funny, everyone liked to say she had “the goods” because the way she moved made everyone fall to the wayside or crumble at her feet. Only that still wasn’t enough to change her mind when the little voice back behind the bars in her thoughts decided to throw a fit. And I know you wouldn’t know it by the way she smiles that million dollar smile or how she laughs with the kind of giggle that makes even the sea jealous, but she never wakes up wtih a smile, she never feels good. At least, that’s how it was, until you came along.
