  4. Fireflies are creatures of nature that warm my heart and make me feel at peace. When they’re around, I know that there is still simple nature preserved there and that these creatures are living in peace. My first time seeing them was only but three years ago and I was over joyed to see a field full of them. One day, I’ll yet

    by Sarah on 05.01.2010
  7. Fireflies are these little bugs that are pretty cool but not magical at all. They have phosphorous in their thoraxes and it makes them glow, which is pretty special but they are still just flying insects. Owl City needs to shut up forever. I live in a place where there are no fireflies and there us usually no owl city

    by dustin on 05.01.2010
  8. Fireflys are an increadible species that has captivated the human mind and imagination for centuries with theiur beauty and light.

As a child, I remember being in the backyard of a friend of my parents and filling an entire jar full of over 20 fireflies. I poked holeds in the top and they just sat there and glowed.

    by Phaedrus on 05.01.2010
  9. The fireflies moved gracefully through the night, like a thousand stars dancing in the air. They hypnotized any who walked by, pulling them into their sway. Carefree, they danced together for all eternity.

  10. lightning, tiny and bright…
    flickering in the night
    the creatures so small
    but so visible

  11. The other night I saw my first firefly. Make that firefiles. They were every where, blinking lighting up the bottom of the bushes. I didn’t think they existed until now. I thought people just made them up to make their stories sound more interesting. So maybe if they exist so do unicorns? Maybe…yes??

  12. I remember the first time I saw fireflies. I was pregnant wih my first child and I thought I was going to get a migraine and I was seeing colors in my side vision. When I realized what I’d seen I was very happy and excited. The best part is that I got to share this moment eith my husband. It was his first firefly experience too.

  13. and the fireflies were glowing bright in the night sky. we were alone. just us and the fireflies. it was peaceful. i wasnt alone for once. it was me and the fireflies, together keeping eachother company.

  14. i love the way they light up the sky on those warm summer nights. seeing them move further away as you gaze at them, they blend in with the stars. when i was little i would catch them and put them in jars just to watch them. Their beauty disapeared when it was daytime and then they looked the same as anyother bug.

    by TATUM on 05.01.2010

  17. These fireflies are so beautiful; I’m happy, I’ve always liked the New Year.

    But you’re prettier than them.
And I’m not that happy. And I wish you were here.

  18. The fireflies winked on and off in the warm summer night. Not even a hint of chill in the air, and not a single cloud. The stars shone almost as brightly as the fireflies. He tilted his head back in child-like wonder at how something billions of lightyears away could look as bright and close to the touch as those little lightening bugs. He reached his hands out for the stars, but couldn’t quite grasp them and contented himself with catching fireflies instead.

  20. He surveyed the fireflies, their ranks accumulating quickly and fervently with great aggression. Their glow soon drowned out the gentle darkness, their acrid buzzing enveloping the tranquil silence.

  22. This is the title of that super stupid sond of that anoying wanna be band. I hate it. Next to that there’s also an amazine story conntected to fireflies. Once I was sitting next to a little girl and she asked me if the little bits of fire from the bomfire were fireflies. No Not true, she asked me if those things become stars. I was confused.

  24. they are bright i see them at night they like to be in the weeds and sometimes in the trees they are interesting little things and they like to use their wings they are easy to miss when there’s only a few but together they create something new a whole new city in the weeds.

    by Anna on 05.01.2010
  25. Fireflies, that word was killed when Owl City decided to make it into an over-played, stupid, ignorant song. thank you, Owl City. You are awful.

    by Rayna on 05.01.2010
  26. We’d always try to find a way to capture their light, but when you’re eight years old, and don’t know a thing about a thing, it’s just cute and fun and harmless. It’s not until the next morning, when you wake up and run to that jar to stare happily at the dancing lights you captured. It’s right then you realize, those lights went out. You put them out. You deprived the bug of oxygen, food, and existence. You’re the reason the lights died. That’s a moment when you grow up and you don’t like what you are.

    by Chrystyn on 05.01.2010
  27. there’s a song called “fireflies” that i hear a million times a day, everywhere. it’s really annoying and the guy’s vocoder vocals are the lamest thing in the world. and the lyrics are fucking dumb. fuck this song.

  28. When I was a girl visiting my grandparents, I can remember catching fireflies at night in front of their porch. We would go out, my two sisters and I, right after dinner as the sun was finally beginning to set, and weave in and out of the trees with all manner of containers, jars, and such.

    by Carolyn on 05.01.2010
  29. The fireflies in my backyard are so beautiful. They were kind of driving me nuts, though. I don’t know… I don’t think I could ever live with fireflies in my backyard. As beautiful as they are, they can get frustrating. And besides, bugs aren’t that great, you know? I’m just not a huge “bug” fan. I hate spiders. They’re awful. Fireflies aren’t spiders though, so it’s okay. I guess.

    by Shelly on 05.01.2010
  30. Are so beautiful because they light up the darkest of places. I see my friends as little fireflie lighting up the sadness that is deep within my heart at the moment. I look to them to show me that there is still an opportunity for happiness in these low times.

    by Keely on 05.01.2010
  31. Flying and lighting the dark with the glow of their mating light. Chasing and catching to place in a jar.

    by Robert Eilers on 05.01.2010
  32. fireflies is something that i couldnt have any clew about as i have never been thought anything about the different types of flies. perhaps this goes to show the possible reform needed in our culture to fully realise that we may need such information for these type of events.

    by james on 05.01.2010
  33. Fireflies are a kind of majestic creature. Haunting and somewhat beautiful. Their cadence across the night sky, mating rituals, and death are but a flicker of movement of the peripheral of a human’s mind when he goes outside camping, but there’s something about them that makes me want to remember them.

    by Reza on 05.01.2010
  34. Twinkle soft and low, gently like a flashing firecracker high in the distant sky–burning like your lips on mine and your fingers in my hair. Losing themselves into the flame that flickers and flares like the most daring candle I’ve seen in years. A soft hum delivers music to my ear and your touch tickles the pit of my stomach, like a firefly landing ever-so-softly on the nape of my neck. Once I would allow their wings to kiss me, the embers would flash then die, like the most terrible sparkler.

    by Mo on 05.01.2010
  35. When I was young I used to play try to catch fireflies in glasses. That sounds like a very cliche thing to do as a young child, but isn’t everything everyone does as a child cliche? I think that’s what makes childhood so romantic. We all used to be the exact same.

    by Victoria Stunt on 05.01.2010
  36. Blow softly. It’s the way of things. They glow. And then they blow away. Too bad. Life is like that. It glows. And then it blows away. I like fireflies. I like life. Even if it does go away. Sixty seconds are like that. They glow, and then they go away. Too short a time. Too long a time. Just about right.
    Fireflies are my favorite.

    by Megan on 05.01.2010
  37. fireflies dance in the evening sun as the last light of our great glowing star slowly fades from the world. We are left with nothing to remember it by but the flickering fireflies dancing on the evening breeze.

    by Jenette on 05.01.2010

  40. …little glittering bugs flying among the leafy forest dew. Early morning and all you can remember is that fresh scent of the pines and the majestic glare of the sunrise overhead. He looked up and for once didn’t feel entirely lost in the world.
