I’m a fake. Writers are fake. They create fake worlds and lives and stories, and readers eat it all right up. But it’s only fake in principle. In some ways it can be more real than reality itself, fake.
I was told that there were people who would be fake when I went into high school. I didn’t really know what they meant, but through the years I learned that those are the ones who are the hardest for me to get close to, the hardest for me to connect with, yet they have the most friends and always seem the happiest. Maybe I should be more fake.
People are generally fake. It doesn’t matter the circumstances, really. People will bend their personalities to whatever will suit them in the moment. You do it, I do it, everyone does. The best we can hope for is that we can stave off this behavior for as long as possible. Nobody’s perfect, the best we can do is to try.
