I was walking up the escalator, down through the cracks my mind fell. Wishing I could be crushed between the metal ridges of the steps. Would it be easier if I was? Maybe so.
Smooth sailing, but stumbling beginnings. I look like what my grandmother must have when she crossed the seas to visit her son for the first time each time I watch the steps float by and mentally prepare myself for the first stretch out into moving ground, all the while trying to be covert about my fear despite years of “escalating”.
We rode the escalator in the mall. I was nervous, I’m glad I faced my fears and did something new.
Now, I am no longer afraid of escalators.
