  1. A person with autism just walked into town. Everyone is staring and talking about her. How weird she talks, how she walks, and how she looks. People are making fun of her and she knows it. It makes her sad.

  3. at the age of 13 we moved to a small town. i left a lot of my friends that i loved .a lot has changed with technology that is good but i certainly believe that some people don’t know how to get off them. i understand that you want to be caught up with friends. i am the person who understands is me i just love to catch up with them so i can still keep up with them. but lets try to just hang out with our families and see what is going on with them. Your friends will still love you if you don’t talk to them for an hour and hang out with them as much as you can cause soon you will be off to college and then you will be wondering why you did not end up spending more time with them. i am the youngest in my family and one of my sisters already is in college and my other is going next year and my brother is leaving the next year after that so i would like to spend as much time with them as i can. so what i am trying to tell you is that the time you spend with them is so precious so use it wisely!

  4. They say I am different. Like I am from another world, they push me down with their words. Every day is like being pushed to the ground and through the earth with their mean and hurtful words. My name is Opal Venala. I am from Africa and I just got adopted by the Venala family. I also transferred to this school, Elica Middle School. It is named after the person who built this school by hand and tool. On the outside my middle school is beautiful. On the inside though, the people are horribly rotten to me. Is this what it feels like to be a different color. In Africa every one was treated the same. My adopted parents told me I was a different color than the students here. Karen Venala, my adopted mom always says to me, “You are different, but that makes you special.” I believe her but sometimes, deep down inside part of me does not believe her. When the students here are mean to me the teachers are late to catch it. The teachers are very nice to me. Especially Mr.Eden. He is African to but is treated very nice. How is Mr.Eden treated different then me and we are both African? I must ask more about him, but now it is time to start another horrid day at Middle School.

  5. Most people don’t want to be different. We want to feel accepted for who we are. There is so much hate in the world now. We are all different and yet we are all human beings.
Please, it is OK to be different but always choose kindness.

  10. Perhaps being different is actually a bad thing. Perhaps unique qualities and outstanding traits actually hinder us from being successful. Because maybe, the average person simply seeks an equal. Maybe being different is what prevents me from being liked or appreciated. Maybe it’s better if I just blend in.

  11. Everyone is different and we need to embrace it not just get things that others have to look the same and fit in. We are all unique and be proud of you are not someone you pretend to be.

  14. so I’m different. so what. I’m still a person with wants and desires as much as the next person who by the way is different. No two people can be the same.

  15. “Hey.”

    “Hey.”

She blinked slowly at me. “You seem so…different from what you were before.”

I shrugged. My shoulders felt so small in my father’s leather jacket. “Well, I’m definitely different,” I replied. “I guess a lot of things changed.”

    “For the better?”

“Yeah,” I said, smiling. “For the better.”

She stepped toward me then, her breath rising in small white bursts in the cold autumn air.

  18. Hector was the most ordinary person you’d ever meet.
Every morning, for breakfast, he’d have his two pieces of toast with butter, his cup of coffee, 2 cream 2 sugars, and read Marmaduke in the local newspaper. Oh how he’d laugh. He wished he could be as free as that loveable Great Dane!
But Hector was in for a rude awakening.

  19. different people had different reactions to the brew. She tried it on her brother-in-law, a man she’d never much liked, and found that it made him eloquent and friendly. That was alarming enough that it was a few weeks before she tried it on herself, and found that it made her much more likely to recite poetry at awkward moments, but had no other effect.
