A lump of coal – something found in the stockings of bad little boys and girls on Christmas day! Something you put as eyes on frozen snowmen on cold winter days … that look out on a cold, cruel world. Something dark.

Coal. Apparently China is sitting on as much coal as has ever been used in human history, and is opening up a new coal plant at the rate of one a week. I find this an incredible statistic, don’t you? I suppose they have a lot of people that need both power and employing so it makes a great deal of sense….

Burning coal is often used for power, but much less now as it releases large amoutns of CO2 which are not good for global warming.
