  9. I used to wear my hair in a braid. Back when it was long and thin and frail, and I looked as if I had an oily bracelet in my hair. I’m so glad I chopped my hair off when I did. I would have looked so terrible by the time I was thirty.

  11. I have been wearing my hair in braids since I was three. It’s a black girl thing you see. Say what you want about that but I will be the first and last to say it’s a black girl thing. I remember going to Ghana once when I was seven. Someone my mom grew up with saw her, saw me and invited me to sit on an overturned bucket in front of her dirt-road-side shop and she braided my hair with beads. I love Ghana.

  14. the hair seemed to flow faster as it seemed to unravel itself. I didn’t know why it had just seemed to fall like that, or why it broke. The damn thing just did, and it wouldn’t stop. So…I let it fall. I mean what else could I do?

  15. Braids are one of the prettiest hairstyles, in my opinion. Any kind of braid. In high school, I had my hair in two braids almost every day for a year. Now, when I grow my hair out, my goal is to be able to do that again. And I really wish I were talented enough to do French braids.

She welcomes everyone, and, in her head, vows that no matter what, she needs to be confident and make this a speech to remember. She speaks about the times throughout high school when she felt alone but her friends came to rescue her. She speaks of the hard times and the fun ones. In the end, everyone applauds with tears in their eyes.

  25. Once upon a time there was a girl with a really long braid, much like a certain storybook character who shan’t be mentioned here for copyright purposes. Everyone stood in awe of her locks not simply because they were long, but also because they were colored a vibrant rainbow. The end.

  27. Our love is a braid, a braid with wild curly red hair. An Irish braid, with beautiful tangles and twists. It’s not perfect but it’s ours and I love it as I love you.

When you braid my hair, I feel like I’m flying. When you brush it off my neck and criss cross it together. It’s a little gesture but it makes my day.

  28. Braids are the ornament of a wonam’s head. They portray beauty and sweet disarray. A simple, long, blond, messy braid says that you are a carefree, but beautiful-beyond-words girl. It bespeaks wilderness. It helps to show a smile. Braids can be crazy, fun, clean-cut, simple, complex, creative, half-done, or down the back. However you wear your braid, it is sure to give a glimpse into your soul.

  30. I really like to braid my hair. It keeps my hair out of my face. There are many different types of braids, such as the fish tail braid and a french braid. I also braid other people’s hair. It looks very nice when it is done correctly. They are very easy to do. Braiding is a very unique concept.

  31. When you braid your hair into two piggy tail braids, and sleep with it over night, your hair looks really cool in the morning when you take them out. I have only tried it once, and it didn’t turn out too well, but I have seen several friends do it, and it looks really good.

  32. I remember when I was younger, in a time that was much easier. What I remember most is something my friends say is “odd, weird, etc”. I feel as though I’m being so stereotypical to the black race when I say it, but it’s true for me. During the summer, I’d go down to my aunt and uncle’s house. My mom would call me after breakfast to do my hair. The heat didn’t make it manageable, so she used to braid it, weaving designs, stories in her work, even if she and I were the only ones who understood it.

  33. The butter braid was delicious. Emily didn’t know what was in it. She just knew it was amazing. The way the pastry flaked off in little pieces, the way the frosting stuck to her fingers, it was all an euphoric experience. She didn’t know how she survived before finding out about those amazing butter braid pastries. She must not have. She took another bite before reveling in the amazing taste.

  38. Hair. Bracelets. Horses. Rope.

  39. I grasped the rough, coarse, thick braid. So gently done with a mother’s touch. Her hair was darker than her skin, a deep black that made me see into the history of Africa and think of a sweet chocolate. She was so much more than her appearance, but then again, aren’t we all?

  40. I love to braid my hair, but everyone always copies what I do. I think girls that are already quite ugly look awful in a braid, it’s kinda funny to see. It pulls the hair away from your face so actually you should be prettier, I think I look fairly good in a braid. Where did the word originate from? Who knows. My favorite is the fishtail braid, Once someone told me they hate when girls wear two braids. Why does that make you look like a cowgirl?
