When we looked back, the front window of the car that hit us was all white. Like a cloud trapped inside. At first, I didn’t understand. My daughter said, “It’s the airbag. It exploded.” “Oh God,” I said. We sat. I said, “We were stopped for that light ahead. There wasn’t anything I could have done.” “Don’t cry, Mom,” my daughter said, but she was crying too. “We better go see,” I said. We walked back, and we saw a boy’s head on the airbag. I rapped on the window and he stirred. “Thank God,” I said. He stayed in our lives until he died of tumors behind his eyes. “Oh, God,” I said. “Please help him.” I’m an atheist, as committed to it as anyone is to God. But I’m considering the fact that maybe I’m an air bag.

is why we’re a cereal

i had a very rude but incomplete reaction to today’s word. Airbag- a bit different to a windbag, yet a literal helpful equivalent.
