  17. I adapted my pulse to the quickening of the timer’s pounding, clicking away at the keys. There was something about the pressure building as the green ink flowed into the the hollow of a status bar, pulsing through the veins of the internet to tell me I am running out of time. The background blurs, and my eyes go in and out of focus. Cortisol, norepniephrine and dopamine surge.

  26. adapting to a new situation can be scary. it can be challenging. but when you adapt to a foreign situation, it always brings a feeling of accomplishment. knowing you had to push your boundaries and step out of that comfort zone to adapt to a new situation or place. isnt that what lifes about?

The way the movement of the trees simulated the back and forth fall right before the drop of the men in line being shot by the men in line with the rifles brought Adeline back to a place of deep sadness. When her Grandmother had shown her the video taken of the second Jewish Holocaust she had wept more than ever in her life and seeing these trees now, in the sooty and gray winds, reminded her only of that and her tears fell in torrents.

  33. Chicago? Don’t you know it’s cold? Why would you ever do that to yourself? God dammit, of course I know it’s cold. The snow white comforts me in the midst of exams, papers, articles, endless responsibilities. I rely on it to be outside my window when I awake, when I go to sleep, when I need some inspiration on my 678th word. Sometimes it leaves, but that’s okay. I get used to that too.

  40. I really don’t know how to adapt to a lot of things. A lot of time I just sit and write and hopefully my fingers will adapt to this new piece, maybe I’ll learn something new along the way. Like people will adapt to not having instant gratification when zombies take over. Or cat ladies adapt to not having people around. I don’t know how to adapt, but I love people.
