institutions

Fuck institutions. They think they can control everyone. In the end who have you really controlled? Tell me how the earth was created and then say.Fuck YOU!

doorknob

Turn it slowly with caution. Be aware of what’s on the other side. Will I be happy with this new life I have chosen, this new door I’ve opened, this new doorknob I’ve turned, turn it with caution.

disregard

I have disregard for a few things in life and I cannot get over it.

brunch

breakfast. lunch. brunch!
 breakfast or lunch?
who even knows
because it just shows
how much love there is for both meals
no matter the appeal
of one
or the other
because some say breakfast is better
or lunch has better crunch
but you know what?
that’s why they made brunch.

centerpiece

Centre of the universe, the centre piece of the puzzle. Always the piece that’s missing that results in the utmost frustration. Always the piece that maintains the enigma and prevents us from ever fully knowing the truth.

If the room was a table, she was the centrepiece, for my eye went to her first, and her presence told me everything I needed to know about the event. She was adorned in finery, chandelier earrings revealed by a spiraling curl, and she smiled with a vague shyness I hadn’t expected.

That thing you put in the middle of the table to tell someone what the occasion is and what you want them to think about it and you. A tiny masterpiece or extravagant nothing to draw the eye from the surrounding mess.

warned

to make someone scared of something or give them a few things to think about in the next few minutes
being warned sometimes helps you but really there is no suprise in it anymore. it loses the excitement

montage

A grandfather eating watermelon sprinkled with salt. Fifty years before he did this in Vegas.

torch

your torch is behind your eyes, looking somehow became staring, when we burnt up peoples people and besides it is your job to read one word at a time….

figure

The figure of a table, of a graph, of a tambourine. A woman’s figure, she shakes like one, jingles like one. Sums. Maths and sums, complex geometry. Of course I can’t figure her out, why else would I be asking?

collar

Cat. Kitty Cat. Furby. Meow. Damn, I miss love. The picture of his cat didn’t have a collar. I wonder. She’s a wild cat, though. Beautiful. Tough to draw. I also like Smitty, an awful lot. =)

mineral

So natural and beautiful. Just so pure. Make me a mineral. Create me from something so simple. Wash away all of my muck until my minerals shine in the sun. This is what I ask.

tape

i stopped to read a text message before i started writing so my monologue about tape will be short.
tape is sticky.
it is useful for wrapping presents.
unless tape is referring to mix tapes in which case this is all wrong.
woops.

corner

I am in a corner at least once a day. It sucks. I try not to corner others because of how it makes me feel.

geese

no geese in new zealand or maybe there are but you certainly never see them in auckland. I spent some time in vancouver but to be honest I never saw them there either – only their droppings.

salt

My roommate douses everything with salt. Somehow she remains a meager 100 pounds. As I carefully portion all of my food, limit my fat-intake and calories, and avoid sweets, I glare at the three pounds of salt she has poured on her already-fattening noodles. Tomorrow I’ll spend an hour at the gym as she sits in front of the TV. The day after that someone will make a comment about how tiny she is, and how tiny I’m not. Life’s not fair.

passport

I’d love to spend a summer abroad. Wake up and smell the roses of the non-American world. The beauty of Parisian streets or the antiquity of city’s older than my own beloved country. Who knows… Maybe I’d fall in love and that passport would evolve into a visa, a green card, what do they call them there?

convertible

A fast red shark flashing down a desolate desert in search of adventure and the American dream. What lies on the other side of the unforesseable path? Madness in every direction. Quiet distillation ample in the atmosphere.

hill

As I came down the hill, the rain pattered on the windshield and I thought I better turn my wipers on. I slowed the car a little, too, because it was getting dark and the roads were slick. I was listening to a great Lucinda Williams song and thinking about him. And that’s when I ran into a fucking bear.

harbor

I harbour secrets. I protect them from your world. I don’t know any other way. I am like a lighthouse scanning the ocean horizon for disaster.

memory

It’s like my mother was able to transmit her lost memories into my very genes. Though she can’t recall exactly what made her mute and crazy, she planted something within me that keeps me searching for the key to her past.

treacherous

The way ahead was treacherous, but there was no going back. Someone had to bring the cake back to Grandma’s house before Granpa got too drunk. That someone was always me. Just call me “Lucky.” Fuck sakes.

string

That was the first and last string I would ever play. Bowling is a stupid game, man. And in Antigonish, “cosmic” bowling just meant that whistle dogs were on special and the Metallica was turned up extra loud.

soothe

There is a beach and a corona. The waves crash on the beach. Sitting next to the one you love. Silence except for the sound of the endless ocean crashing on the shore. Nobody else in sight. No worries or problems. Real life has been left behind. Only you and the beach and the one you love.

powder

I stared out over the valley of mountains, at the fresh powder that recently settled on the peaks, every skiier and snowboarder’s dream.
But I wasn’t a skiier or a snowboarder; I was a wrier. So on this beautiful snowy day, perfect for skiing or snowboarding, I stayed inside, typing away on my laptop, working on my novel.

system

The system of pullies and ropes kept me from falling to my death as I gripped the side of the rocky cliff.
While hanging on for dear life, my feet searched for a good foothold, and found none. Finally, I managed to wedge my toe in a piece of rock.
But the rock suddenly broke and I was falling, falling so fast, until the harness around my waist tightened and stopped me just mere feet of the ground.

burst

I was practically bursting with excitement as I sat in one of the uncomfortable chairs in the airport. I continuously glanced at the clock on the wall in front of me, waiting for his flight to come in.
Suddenly, people began flooding out of the gate, and I hopped to my feet. “Timothy!” I cried in excitement, and I dashed into my brother’s open arms.

flavor

I stared out the window, the lingering flavor of licorice still in my mouth.
“Macy?”
I turned to my friend, Linda. “Yeah?”
“Everything’s changing.”
I turned away, refusing to answer, refusing to admit how right she was.
